The real life Lucy from the Beatles' song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" has died after a long fight against lupus.

The death of Lucy Vodden at age 46 has been announced by St. Thomas' Hospital in London, where she was treated.

The hospital said Monday she died after battling the disease for years.

Vodden came to the attention of John Lennon when the Beatles' young son Julian came home from school one day with a drawing that he said was "Lucy in the sky with diamonds."

The elder Lennon turned it into a psychedelic masterpiece long associated with LSD use.

Julian Lennon reached out to Vodden in recent years as she suffered from the disease.

Lupus is a chronic illness during which the immune system attacks the body's own tissue.

How sad - but I'm happy she reconnected with Julian in her final months. I'm sure he helped cheer her up.

Funny, I've heard a lot of talk about her for the past few months (none mentioning how sick she was) and now she passes away.

It'd be nice if the classic rock stations all agreed to play the song for her at once, since now the title is more poinent (sp?) than ever.

Rest is peace Lucy (lupus is a horrible disease).

It's sad to know you're gone, Lucy Vodden.For the joy and inspiration you brought out in others(that includes the satirical song,''Judy In Disguise'',which also had some popularity)many of us are thankful ...especially me.May your diamonds shine brighter in the sky...figuratively,that is. We will miss you.
