Question About "Come, Let's Reason Together?" - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This is the LHOTP episode where Percival's father Benjamin Cohen clashes with Harriot over whether or not Nellie's expected children will be raised as Jews or Christians. But I see a continuity problem:

In the first supper with both expected families, pork chops are served, and Mr. Cohen in correct Jewish custom refuses the pork because pork meat is not kosher in Jewish culture.

In the second supper instance, baked ham is the main course and Mr. Cohan makes a comment, "No pork chops I hope." Perceval answers back, "No papa, Baked Ham." Mr, Cohan for some reason accepts this. (The reason why he refused to eat the second meal was because of the observance of the Sabbath Celebration.) But as ham is also derived from pork, why would ham be considered kosher, but not the pork chops?

Is this an error on the writers' part? Or is there something in Jewish culture that I am not aware of that would make the above make sense?

Good catch! I didn't notice that. Maybe the line "No Papa, baked ham" was supposed to be a joke. I'd like to see this again to check it out. I don't have these on DVD so I'll have to wait.
