I'll have to think about it for awhile, but one song immediately comes to mind for me that doesn't just mention Portland, Oregon, the name of the song is actually Portland, Oregon. It was recorded a few years back by a very odd duo, Jack White from The White Stripes, and Lorretta Lynn. The song won a Grammy, and is basically about alcohol. I'm proud to have such a great song named after not only my State, but also the City I live in. Here's a link to the song for anyone who wants to hear it.

There are tons of songs about New York but perhaps the most popular is Sinatra's "Theme From New York, New York"

Presidents of the USA sing a song called "Volcano" and they mention Mount St. Helens and Puget Sound.
Huey Lewis and the News include Seattle in their "Heart of Rock and Roll" hit. Those are the only two I can think of, though. |

Every song by Joe Budden.
A lot of songs by Bruce Springsteen I'm Moving Out by Billy Joel "who needs a house out in Hackensack? Is that all you get for your money?" Their are a bunch others, but these are the ones that I can think, off the top of my head. |

Frances Farmer (1913-1970) was a Seattle-born actress known for her controversial behavior at the time. She was known for being against the "Hollywood life" and doing what she wanted. She also was an alcoholic and got into fist-fights; knocking down police officers and studio employees. She was committed to mental hospitals numerous times where she went under electro-shock therapy. In her last years throughout the 50s-60s she had attempts at comebacks, her anthology series Frances Farmer Presents, but was often let go and re-hired due to her behavior. Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were fans of Frances Farmer; Love wore a dress owned by her at their wedding. |

Nirvana covered their song "Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam" for MTV Unplugged. Reportedly, the middle name Bean came from Kurt saying she looked like a bean on the ultrasound. |
