New Interview with Wes Craven on "Scream 4"
Scream IV Set with Neve Campbell Returning
by Erik Davis Sep 24th 2009 Who knows what finally convinced Neve Campbell to return to the Scream franchise, but according to Variety (and Bob Weinstein), she'll join both Courteney Cox and David Arquette in a fourth installment set to begin production in April or May. This fourth installment will be the first in a new trilogy, and The Weinstein Co. is in talks with Wes Craven to helm at least the first film. No word on whether Campbell and the Cox-Arquette duo will stay on past the first flick or be hacked up five minutes in (I'd vote for the latter). The Weinstein Co. have been battling rumors of money trouble for awhile now, letting go of employees and delaying films due to lack of funds and manpower. Now, though, Bob Weinstein says the company will be returning to some of the franchises that helped produce box office, and in addition to three new Scream films, they're bringing Robert Rodriguez back to write and direct Spy Kids IV in 3D, with production on that set to begin in March of 2010 (so much for Sin City 2 ...). Also on the agenda for Weinstein is a third Halloween movie in 3D, as well as remakes of Hellraiser, Scanners (in 3D), Short Circuit and American Werewolf in London. On whether Weinstein will be able to handle all these films without bankrupting the company or delaying release dates for years on end, Bob notes, " ... there is no question that financing is readily available to produce and market these films." Guess we'll see about that ... http://www.cinematical.com/2009/09/2...ell-returning/ |

Kevin Williamson Talks Plot Details for Scream IV
Tuesday, November 3, 2009 By: MrDisgusting Scream franchise writer Kevin Williamson has been extremely open when talking about Scream IV, the first in a new trilogy that the Weinsteins hope to bring Wes Craven back to. "It's going good," Williamson told MTV. "I've gotta finish that baby." He reveals some of the first story details in the video that can be viewed beyond the break. "The fourth one is an ensemble...It'll take place right now, 10 years later, and it's going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro. We'll have our three main characters, and we'll be introducing several more." The three characters that will be returning are Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette), Williamson confirmed, adding, "We'll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That'll take us through the next three." http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/17950 - video here |

AFM '09: Scream IV Hi-Res Promo Art
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 By: MrDisgusting Already hitting the floor here at AFM where we scored a look at the official sales synopsis for Scream IV. "The horror series that reignited the genre and grossed more than $500 Million worldwide is back! From Kevin Williamson, creator of the original "SCREAM" trilogy, the new film sees the return of cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, along with a group of new stars, who can hopefully stay alive long enough to figure out the new rules to this one-of-a-kind horror franchise." No director is listed although Wes Craven is in talks. http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/17961 |

Scream IV Writer Talks Sidney Prescott's Fate, Death Scenes and Comedy
Wednesday, November 11, 2009 By: MrDisgusting The NY Post caught up with Scream IV writer Kevin Williamson to ask specifically about the fate of Sidney Prescott (played in the previous three films by Neve Campbell) in the forthcoming sequel from Dimension Films. For those of you keeping track, Campbell had originally passed on the project and caused major turmoil for Williamson, who admitted on Twitter that he had big plans for her. Eventually Campbell came around, and now the fate of her character is in focus. Read on to see what he tells the Pop Watch section of the Times. "The thing about 'Scream 4' is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything," he told PopWrap about Sidney's role in the fourth film now that Neve will return. "There are a lot of moving pieces, so we'll see -- but if you're a 'Scream' fan, I think you're really going to like it." The most interesting revelation is that Williamson has tapped into all sorts of horror subgenres for the forthcoming SCREAM IV. "I've [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there's some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they've come and gone," he tells the site while also addressing the comedy in the film. "You have to be careful because 'Scary Movie' spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with 'Scream 4' is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary. That's first and foremost." SCREAM IV was a hot commodity at the AFM this past week. The new film sees the return of cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, along with a group of new stars, who can hopefully stay alive long enough to figure out the new rules to this one-of-a-kind horror franchise. http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/18080 |

Courteney Cox Thinks Gale Weathers is Miserable in Scream IV
Monday, November 16, 2009 By: MrDisgusting As if the actors ever know what's going on with the development of a script, Scream IV star Courteney Cox made a few predictions today about what she thinks is happening in the life of Gale Weathers, and her husband Dewey (David Arquette). "They're probably back living in Woodsboro," Cox tells Yahoo. "I think that he's probably still deputy, and I've had a lot of kids. I don't know. I'm probably miserable, and then I'm sure a lot of murdering will happen." http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/18116 |

Ontario-born actress Neve Campbell first found fame on Fox's Party of Five before perfecting her little "girl lost in horror, blood and gore act" in The Craft, playing a teen witch even though she was in her early 20s at the time.
Looking perennially younger than she actually is, Neve moved on to even greater fame amongst a new generation of slasher flick fans as Sidney Prescott in the Scream trilogy, the most successful psychological horror genre films of all time. Thrillingly, the four are due to reunite for Scream 4 which is scheduled to start filming in the spring. Campbell has lived, almost secretly, in London for the last five years with her actor husband John Light, a Brit. Indeed: these days the 36 year-old actress is such a fully paid-up Anglophile, even Madonna and Gwyneth would be impressed. Maybe even shown up. Do you ever feel drawn to horror films due to your legacy in them? I’m very thankful for the Scream movies. They were fantastic for my career. Do I fear being pigeonholed for making this genre of movie? Not really. I’ve had a good ride, career-wise. So you don’t think you are in any danger of becoming the next Jamie Lee Curtis of the shock-horror world? Being the next Jamie would be fine! (laughs) In fact, we start shooting Scream 4 in mid-April. I’m so happy that those of us still “alive” from 1, 2 and 3 like David (Arquette) and Courtney (Cox) have already signed up to take part. Did you all stay in touch after the trilogy had wrapped? Oh, yes. Completely. I haven’t spoken to them in a while. I’m sure it took a while to convince them to take part [in the picture], especially because they’re now a very happy family ,and of course, it was a long journey for them. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, and a lot like going back to summer camp. What else can you tell us about Scream 4? I’m pretty sure at this stage that Wes [Craven] is back on board to direct and Kevin [Willamson] is definitely writing it...so it is going to be great. So you haven’t been sent a script yet, then? No. Not yet. They had to wait for us all to sign on. I suppose that’s the way these days! What’s the key to playing Sidney? Physically speaking, it’s all about working the bob! And the only way I can achieve that properly every day on set is through Tara Smith hair products. Seriously, if Tara didn’t cut and style my hair in an amazing girly way to re-create the Sidney look, I wouldn’t have a starting point [for the character]. I’m not kidding. Hers are the only products I can use without killing my hair and skin, as they are 100% organic and free of chemicals. You sound like a big fan! Honestly, your readers should try them and get the Sidney bob to hold for when the film comes out next year! Once I’ve got the hairstyle, the character of Sidney definitely comes back to me. Work-wise, what’s next for you before shooting Scream in the Spring? Well, I’m always trying to find a great new scam to avoid the dark, damp British winters if I can! So, I’ve just signed up to do a movie in Sydney, Australia starting in December. http://www.blackbookmag.com/article/...hings/13318/P1 |

The Arquettes Confirm Craven for Scream 4?
Source: MTV January 18, 2010 Look, Scream 4 is going to happen. It's just a matter of when and if the Weinstein brothers can pull it together. They're having a rough time, financially, but they may have the bread to kick off the promised "second trilogy" of Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson's franchise. All the actors are falling into place. Until a script was turned in by Williamson, it was uncertain if Wes Craven was coming back, but at last night's Golden Globes ceremony, David Arquette said: "Yes, Wes is in, Neve is in, everyone is in." Wife Courteney Cox adds, however, "I know they're trying to make that work. They'll make it work. I hope." Which sounds to us like there are some roadblocks Scream 4 needs to hurdle before anything can happen. http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=13708 |

More on Craven and Scream 4
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor January 20, 2010 The back and forth, "is he or isn't he?" surrounding Wes Craven's involvement on Scream 4 continues. On the KTLA morning show in Los Angeles, actor David Arquette - dressed like Pee Wee Herman (to tour friend Paul Reuben's live Pee Wee show) - told the anchors that Craven's deal to direct the next installment in the franchise is being worked out. That's a change from "he's in" which Arquette told MTV at the Golden Globes. But he did add that the sequel will shoot later this year. With Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Arquette and Kevin Williamson all involved, it's hard to believe Craven would walk away from this reunion. I think we can all expect a confirmation soon... http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=13744 |

Kevin Williamson Spills More on Scream IV
Friday, January 29, 2010 By: MrDisgusting There have been so many rumors and so much speculation behind Dimension Films' highly anticipated Scream IV, which is supposed to go behind camera this coming April. As of right now, Wes Craven should be directing (again) with Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox all returning to solve another "Ghostface" mystery. IESB caught up with screenwriter Kevin Williamson who not only confirms Craven's involvement, but also chats up some story details. Read on for the skinny. With all of the stars returning, Williamson's original version of the story will be hitting the big screen -- with no compromise. "I'm almost done with the first draft of "Scream 4"," he tells IESB.net. "I'm trying to get that together for Wes Craven. We've got to get going on that, during the hiatus. We have Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Dave Arquette. I was always holding out hope because the pitch was about those three characters. I didn't want to have to re-route the whole story. We don't have to do that. I can do it exactly the way I want wanted. The story is going to be told the way I originally conceived it." He also chats about the strong mystery of who this Ghostface will be. "Well, that's the whole point of the movie," he tells the site. "What I have always liked about this movie versus the other horror films is that I feel like there are characters. In other horror movies, you remember Michael Meyers and you remember Jason. In our film, I think you remember Sydney Prescott because Sydney Prescott's the victim and she has lasted for all three of these movies. The fun of the film is that it's Sydney Prescott. That's the difference and you care about her. I want to write a story where you actually care about our characters and it's a plot that you watch them walk through. It's not all about the next kill. It's not all about slice and dice. I was watching "Saw VI" on pay per view the other night and I was like, "This is really just going from one kill to the next, to the next." It's fun, but I want to tell a story." Williamson also confirms he's locked in for Scream 4 and 5 and that it is a planned trilogy. Let's see if this even goes before cameras first. http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/18893 |
