"Saturday Night Live" alum Jim Breuer is Getting a Sitcom - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

"Saturday Night Live" alum Jim Breuer is back at NBC, developing a sitcom project based loosely on his own life.
Multi-camera comedy, which has been given a script order by NBC, stars Breuer as a father who decides to stay home and raise his three daughters -- and at the same time take care of his elderly parents.

The Breuer project comes from Sony Pictures TV. Wil Calhoun ("Friends") is attached to write, while Brian Robbins' Varsity Pictures is on board to produce, along with Levity Entertainment Group ("The Jeff Dunham Show").

"About seven or eight years ago I decided to walk away from everything and stay home to watch my kids grow," Breuer said. "I also began looking after my parents, who were deep into their 80s. That led to a lot of humor."

It also formed the basis for his one-hour Comedy Central special "Let's Clear the Air," which ran in July, as well as the documentary "More Than This," which follows Breuer as he embarks on a stand-up tour with his father. "More Than This" was screened during the Montreal Comedy Festival and has been embraced by groups involved with elder care.

Both of those projects, along with Breuer's frequent appearances on Howard Stern's satellite radio program, led to talk of turning his life-inspired routine into a sitcom.

Breuer said the focus on his family life reps quite an evolution from the stoner-based humor he was known for in the 1990s (thanks to his roles in films such as "Half Baked").

"Hence the name of the special, 'Let's Clear the Air,' " he said. "Yes, I'm the guy from 'Half Baked' and 'Goat Boy' from 'Saturday Night Live.' But I'm grown up just like you guys."

Breuer, Calhoun and Robbins will exec produce, along with Levity's Judi Brown-Marmel and Varsity's Sharla Sumpter.

Next up, Breuer has sealed a deal with Gotham/Penguin to write a memoir of his days from "Saturday Night Live" through fatherhood, and then as part of the so-called "sandwich generation" that is caring for both their parents and their kids.

Breuer was a cast member on "SNL" from 1995-98.
