Default Would you support a law banning cell phones and texting while driving?

Simple question. I'm normally not for nanny state laws, but I think this one could save lives. People seem way too distracted while driving these days.

Thumbs up

This question seems too easy....

ABSOLUTELY!!

One of the things that irks me the most while driving is somebody who is driving slower in front of me, or who is obviously not paying attention to their driving, then I see, oops, big surprise, they're busy yakking away on their cell, or they're too busy looking at it to look at the road in front of them!!

I have got 2 small stickers, one on the driver's window and one on the passenger window of my car. One reads "Hang Up and Drive" and the other one reads "You!! Get Off Your Damn Phone!!". You wouldn't believe all the compliments I get from those stickers!!

Texting especially is extremely dangerous while driving. You have to take your eyes off the road to do it. Talking on the phone while driving is also distracting. Too many times have I had to swerve to avoid a car crossing the center line while they were on the phone. What is so important that you can't pull off the road or wait until you get to your destination before talking on the phone? I just don't get it!

Yes. People survived for years driving without having to talk or text something every damn second. It's ridiculous. Especially texting, you're not even looking at the road. It's so dangerous. Unfortunately, it's not like it'd be an easy law to uphold because people can hold their phones down low when they're texting so cops can't see. And speaking of cops, I see plenty of them on their phones, too.

I am in favor of banning texting and cell phone talk while driving. The conversation can wait.

It's sad that they even have to consider these kinds of laws. You would think that people would have a little more common sense.

In a heartbeat!! If I need to use the phone when I'm in the car, I generally just pull over.

I agree. Too many people are dying. There have been pilots of planes and trains crashing and killing themselves and others. Turns out they were texting just before the crashes.

Oh No

Since I've known at least two people (Frank being one of them) who almost killed themselves and others, as well as writing off two beautiful cars because of this I'm ALL for it.

WTF can't wait a few minutes anymore? Damned youngsters - how'd ya like to live in our times when we had to find phone booths while on the road. It didn't kill us - but this texting sure is.

Yes because if idiots want to do that, they need to pull over or not do it at all.

I know I don't want to die because someone was texting or using their phone and not paying attention to their driving.

There is not one single reason that anyone, anywhere, has to use a cell phone WHILE driving. As Monika said, you can (and should) always pull over. Doing anything else pretty much says you don't care a whit about endangering the lives of everyone on the road with you.

Just like drinking and driving.
