Exclamation Estelle Getty's Emmy up for sale on eBay!

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is working to have the 1988 Emmy won by Estelle Getty taken off eBay.
Getty's trophy for supporting comedy actress for her work in "The Golden Girls" was put up for sale on the site last week by a seller that specializes in fine art. Initial asking price is $15,000. No bids had been made as of Monday afternoon.

When alerted to the pending auction, ATAS marketing VP Laurel Whitcomb said the TV Acad maintains a policy similar to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with regards to its Oscars. If individuals or their heirs don't want the statue anymore, it becomes the property of the TV Acad and must be returned.

"When the Emmy winner wins, they sign a form acknowledging the statue is a loan and can keep it as long as they desire. But if they part with it, they must give it back to the Academy," Whitcomb said. "We've taken steps to have it taken off the market and retrieved."

Getty, who died last year, received seven nominations for "The Golden Girls" but won only once.

Who in the world would try to sell something like that? I would think it would have gone to one of her sons!

I think it has to be the family selling it. I can't believe her heirs wouldn't want to keep the statue or give back to the Academy for preservation.

I agree. What a shame! Hopefully the Academy gets it back.

Has anyone heard if The Academy was able to get it back? They were supposed to be trying to.

I did a Google news search and I didn't find any new articles. I do hope the Academy gets the Emmy back.
