Cool Sitcoms you think are well-written, even though you don't care for them

A big one for me is Seinfeld. I find Jerry himself funny and I do think the show was well-written. I just never could understand the appeal of the show myself. I have a hard time getting into a show where none of the main characters are very likable. I feel the same about Arrested Development. Funny show, but the characters just didn't appeal to me.

Another one is All in the Family. Ground-breaking show, I will admit, but just never held my interest.

I totally agree with you & I was just about to say Seinfeld myself. You would think I am a Seinfeld fan. Their is a lot of tongue in cheek humor on the show, which I use myself quite often. I never got into the characters either. I watched a few episodes this week and thought it was funny, but didn't like the show. For me to enjoy a show, if it is a comedy, it has to be funny and just a good show. Seinfeld is 1/2 for me, based off of that.

I think I feel that way about Cheers. I know it's a clever show, but I honestly never cared for any of the characters very much. Truth to tell, I feel that way about most modern comedies; the lack of identifiable characters is a real problem for me. I don't need everyone to be squeaky clean or something, but most modern comedies have us laughing "at" the characters rather than laughing "with" them.

I know what you mean about Cheers. I do love it, but not too many of the characters are that likable to me. Wings may have been considered an inferior Cheers knock-off, but I prefer it to Cheers because I find the Wings gang a much more likable group of people. I'd rather hang out at the Wings airport than belly up to the Cheers bar.

For some reason I've never been able to get into "Scrubs" even though I've tried multiple times and I think it's well-written. Something about it is just not my style. I half agree on Seinfeld except sometimes I really like it but often I can't get into it

Yeah, I'm with you on Scrubs, too. For me, that's a case of a show that is just trying so hard to be "precious" and clever that it never seems even remotely "real" to me. And if I can't recognize myself or someone I know on screen, the game is pretty much over for me.

Seinfeld
Cheers
My Name Is Earl
The Office

I've never been able to get into any of these shows, though I am starting to get use to The Office.

I think The Office and 30 Rock are both well-written, clever shows for their network, but I don't find either amusing or funny at all. Same goes for shows like Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, House, and all the other Emmy-darlings - while they may be critically acclaimed, I just don't like them.

The only well written sitcom I have never cared for is The Office.

I would say Cheers, Friends and Frasier. All of these are great concepts but I could never get into them, no matter how hard I try. If I had to pick one of these three to become a fan of, I would pick Friends. That one I can at least watch and enjoy on occasion.
