Why did the writers have to make J.J Jobless as soon as Florida Returned?? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Why couldn't he remain a employed man like he was the entire time she wasn't there? So because Florida was returning J.J couldn't be the breadwinner in the house?

Also why did the writers have J.J's boss refer to him as "J.J" when he was in his office instead of Mr. Evans or James?-lol

Oh these pitiful and stupid writers

Because if he was working and Flo came back and she ended up getting a job, Keith was working part time, Thelma was working a tad bit. There wouldn't have been a need for JJ to remain living in the apartment.

Plus, JJ losing his job reflected the inflation and cutbacks that happened under the then-current Carter administration. He had a cushy job at an ad agency and had to go back to working odd jobs until he hit big with his Dynowoman comic strip.

The whole Carl storyline was so stupid to begin with. They shouldn't have even brought his name up when Flo returned home. Carl should have been Michaels ex-boss that's all.

Yes, they completely botched it up and wasted a good actor (Moses Gunn) in the process.
