I was just wondering if anyone else had seen The Staircase. I believe it originally aired on the Sundance Channel in the U.S., but it's available on DVD (I got it off Netflix). It's an 8-part documentary about the Michael Peterson case, a writer accused of murdering his wife Kathleen. She was found at the bottom of a staircase covered in blood. He claims it was an accident.
The case has so many twists and turns and proves that truth is stranger than fiction. You could not make up a murder trial more interesting than this!! I thought the documentary was extremely well-done, if one-sided. The filmmakers seem to have full access to Michael Peterson, his defense team, and his family, but apparently the prosecution decided to limit the filmmaker's access. But really, it doesn't matter which side you believe because getting an up-close look at an accused man and his defense team is fascinating in itself. I know that Court TV covered the trial as it happened. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about the case, the outcome, and the film itself. Even though the trial happened a few years ago, I hesitate to give away the verdict in case anyone is unfamiliar with the case and wants to watch the documentary.... |
