Exclamation Ala. boy fakes kidnapping to hide bad grades

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090914/...kes_kidnapping

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – An 11-year-old boy gets high marks in storytelling after staging a hoax to cover up his bad grades. Police said the boy faked his kidnapping Friday to avoid bringing home a bad report card, saying that a man with a pistol snatched him after he left Ed White Middle School. The boy said the man forced him into a "beat-up car" and threatened to kill him.

The student said he escaped by jumping out of the car but wasn't able to grab his bookbag, which contained the report card.

He ran to his grandparents' house and later confessed to lying. His grandfather called police to apologize.

Sgt. Mark Roberts said police were suspicious that the boy was able to "escape" with his band instrument, but not his bookbag.

Roberts said the boy faces no charges at this time.

I heard about this, poor kid. It happened about 45 minutes away from where I live.

Cool

If he would only put that kind of effort and creativity into his schoolwork he wouldn't get a bad report card.

Wow, all he had to worry about was getting in trouble for bad grades and now he's really gonna get it! How scary that must have been for his parents to think that he'd been kidnapped. It's good that they took him seriously though because it would be horrible to think about what would happen if he were really to be kidnapped and then the police not believe it.

I think the boy should do community service and later on when he is older he should pay law enforcement any money that was spent when he faked the kidnapping.

Sometimes I feel school is pretty much overrated. Lots of stuff you learn that you'll never ever use in the real world.

Then what do you call a 25 cent coin? If by some chance you call it a quarter than you are using a fraction. The term quarter refers to a 25 cent coin being worth one quarter of a dollar. Do you ever do any baking? Many recipes call for a half cup of one ingredient or a quarter of a teaspoon of another. My point is we may think were not using what we learned in school but we do. We just don't always realize it!

Marv, my idea of cooking is making a grilled cheese sandwich, defrosting frozen veggies and putting a can of soup on the heat. Sad but true.
