TV Stars who have appeared on All My Children

Over its nearly 40 year run on television, the residents of Pine Valley have been visited by numerous celebrities. One of AMC's earliest celebrity fans was comedienne Carol Burnett, who for a short time in 1983 played Verla Grubbs, the long lost daughter of Professor Langley Wallingford (Louis Edmonds). During Burnett's stint on AMC the cast was shocked by a surprise visit from her close friend and Academy Award winner, Elizabeth Taylor, who was quickly written into the script as a "Charwoman" at the Chateau, wearing Burnett's famous costume from her variety show.

The comedy team of Stiller and Meara appeared on AMC as well. Anne Meara played Peggy Moody, the maid at the Marick mansion, Wildwind, in the early 90s. Meara's husband Jerry Stiller (fondly remembered as the boisterous father of George Kostanza on Seinfeld) made a few guest appearances as a theatrical agent in scenes with Adam Chandler's (David Canary) daughter, Hayley Vaughn (Kelly Ripa).

The versatile Lynne Thigpen, known to children in the 90s as the Chief in Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, actually played two roles in AMC. In 1983 she played Angie Baxter Hubbard's (Debbi Morgan) Aunt Flora. Thigpen returned eleven years later to portray Grace Keefer, aunt of Noah Keefer (Keith Hamilton Cobb). A truly gifted actress, Thigpen performed in many films and a wide range of prime time television shows prior to her untimely death.

Actress Maureen O'Sullivan, who made her mark as Jane in the early Tarzan films appeared in AMC in 1981, playing Olive Whelan, the landlady of the house in which Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) hid when she was avoiding Pine Valley following the death of Kent Bogard (Michael Woods).

Broadway favorites Melba Moore and Robert Morse made brief appearances on the show as well. Moore appeared in a scene with pop great Lesley Gore. The two musical stars were assisting Erica's brother, Mark Dalton (Mark LaMura) in one of his songwriting endeavors. Robert Morse played Benny Sago's (Vasili Bogazianos) bookie, Harry for a short while.

Comedian Dom DeLuise enjoyed his appearance on AMC in 1991. He portrayed a humorous traffic cop during Hayley's kidnapping in the Caribbean.

And, who can forget Rosie O'Donnell's two week stint as Adam Chandler's wisecracking, substitute maid? Another AMC fan, O'Donnell relished being in the soap for a brief time.

Soap operas are very hard work for the performers who appear in five shows each week. Most actors who move onto film and prime time t.v. say that their tenure on daytime is the best training a performer can get. However, it is clear from the number of guests who have visited Pine Valley that many seasoned performers respect the genre and enjoy being part of it

I used to LOVE All My Children, so thanks for this list. I didn't know that Jerry Stiller had been a guest star. I don't remember him mentioning it in his book.
I do remember Lynn Thigpen's later role on AMC. I had forgotten that she passed away though.
