In New Mexico it's the New Mexico State Police.

FHP - Florida Highway Patrol
We also have the Brevard County Sheriff's Department. I originally thought that they cover the towns that don't have a police department, like Merritt Island, BUT they are featured on Cops once in a while. Just saw a Cops episode the other day, where a guy got pulled over at a convenience store by BCS. I figured out this store was in Cocoa, and Cocoa has a police dept., so I guess BCS cover even the towns that have police. I guess technically they would be a "Highway Patrol", too, because I've seen them have people pulled over on I-95!
