How should 9/11 be "named"? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I posted this commentary, but I wanted to comment on something that was mentioned in the article. However, I didn't want to make my post too long, so I'm starting another thread.

Here's the article again, in case you haven't read it. It's the "Acts of Kindness" article:

It's interesting that he mentions that 9/11 shouldn't be considered a holiday; part of a three day weekend. I totally agree with that. If they made it a holiday it could be one of those that isn't really considered a government holiday. However, I do think that they should give it a "name" instead of just September 11th Like December 7th is Pearl Harbor Day. I know that Pearl Harbor is COMPLETELY different than 9/11, but it just seems like it should be more on the calendar than just 9/11 and nothing printed. I've seen it called "Patriot Day" on calendars, but that makes it sound like another July 4th. I've thought about this a lot, really. I don't think there is a name for the Oklahoma City bombings either and there really should be. It's kind of hard for me to come up with anything, because so many things happened on 9/11. World Trade Center day or Pentagon Day sounds

and it's very one-sided.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm just doing this out of curiosity. It's just kind of a shame that it doesn't have an official "name" though. As the article states, if it's a day of service, then maybe it should be called that. Something like 9/11 Goodwill day. I'm sure you all can come up with something much better than I can!

That's a good article. I have also seen "Patriot Day" listed on several calendars. I guess 9/11 will always be known as 9/11.

It should stay as 9/11 or Patriot Day.

I think they should make a movie at the movie theater called "Patriot Day". Maybe they should call it Flight 93 Day. Like I see on every calendars at the store, Patriot Day is fine with me.

Don't we already have a Patriot's Day? I think it just be called, "9/11". That's ingrained in everyone's mind, and it symbolizes the tragedy. It speaks for itself. I disagree with the Day of Service. I think people should just quietly honor 9/11 their own way, be it going to church, a local gathering, a moment of silence or just saying a prayer. I don't need to hug a tree to honor the fallen. Nobody needs to be told what to do.

Yeah, 9/11 sounds good to me as well. Like you all said, it doesn't really need a day. I'm not sure where they came up with Patriot Day, but it sounds like a celebration day, which 9/11 definitely is NOT. Thanks for the replies! I was just kind of brainstorming. However I do think that it should be highlighted on calendars, you know, the way some calendars have official (and non-government) holidays and special days noted.
