Default Anti-Virus Pop Up

Is anyone else getting this anti-virus ad pop up called "Alarm Zone" or something along those lines? Seems like whenever I go to a specific forum each day, the page redirects to this ad, and it makes me nervous. For two days in a row, it seems to come up whenever I go to the reality shows page, and it's very annoying.

On Friday night this happened to me. It wasn't on the reality Board though. I went to the search feature and it directed me to this anti-virus page which IS NOT AN ANTI-VIRUS PAGE. It told me my computer was infected by a Trojan and tried to download crap onto my computer. When I tried to close the window, it said that if I did this my computer was in danger of crashing. I finally rebooted it and it seems to be gone. I didn't notice the ad over on the Photo Galleries or any other website, just on the message boards.

Glad to see I'm not the only one it's happening to.

And yes, it's NOT an anti-virus, just a virus in disguise. A few days ago it was one of those things that shows a page of your "documents" with viruses infecting it - I hate those pages the most, so I had to reboot the computer to make sure nothing downloaded itself to my computer.

It does seem to change up, though. I got it last night for a second on the fan fiction page. Not sure what's up with that.

Yea that's exactly what happened to me. It would show some of my folders telling me I had 3 viruses in one and 4 in another. I couldn't close the window and when I tried, it said my computer would crash. I wasn't on last night so it only happened to me once. I was over in the photo galleries yesterday morning and nothing happened over there. I haven't noticed anything on any other websites either.

I really hate it too!

I even try to block it, but it still shows up.

Sorry about that. I've not seen the ad myself. Sometimes one will sneak in on the weekends, and the advertising networks don't receive the complaints until Monday morning. Then they remove it from the rotation.

It's back. I saw it around 7:00 and I closed my window before it took me to that anti-virus site.

I was just about to come post the same thing - just popped for me again, too. What's also getting annoying is that "moderated posts" thing that comes up everytime I post a reply.

I have been getting this big grey box and I forget what it says, but it gives two options, one to cancel and one to proceed or something like that. It's not just this site, but it kind of scares me to hit cancel, in case it's a "trick".

Luckily, it hasn't shown up for me this time around. Hope they can get rid of it though.

this thing has been showing up everywhere recently - including on the website of the New York Times.

it is definitely a malware attack and you should not click on it to allow it to install anything.

New York Times Site Pop-Up Says Your Computer Is Infected

you can either disable java or use firefox with adblock to prevent it - and of course make sure you use up-to-date antivirus and firewall programs

Note to Readers

Published: September 13, 2009

Some NYTimes.com readers have seen a pop-up box warning them about a virus and directing them to a site that claims to offer antivirus software. We believe this was generated by an unauthorized advertisement and are working to prevent the problem from recurring. If you see such a warning, we suggest that you not click on it. Instead, quit and restart your Web browser.
