Question Jammed Finger

Anyone ever had a jammed finger? I injured my finger yesterday playing basketball (my pinky went backwards when I tried to catch the ball once). It was in so much pain and I put ice on it all day and night last night, hoping it wouldn't swell up. It did swell, but not that much. This morning though, it was worse and looked bruise. The coloring is going down, but it's still swollen. I got one of those finger slints to wear on it tomorrow before my basketball class, but...anyone have any other advice? Should I put it in some warm water, keep icing it, anything else??

Ice for the first 24 hours, heat after that. It should be 100% in about a week. Take it from someone that played ball and broke 3 fingers growing up.

Yikes...three fingers?! Thanks for the advice. I'll keep applying some heat to it. It still hurts a little and is swollen, but I managed to play today.

Yeah, I was a bit of a klutz growing up. Since it's past 24 hours now, just keep heat on it. It'll get better each day.

I hate when things like that happen. The pain just nags and nags. Same thing with a paper cut or a finger burn. I hope your finger heals quickly.

Thanks guys! Yeah, it was kind of annoying when it happened. It was in pain for a good couple of hours. I've jammed my finger in the past wtih basketball and softball during PE, so I knew how bad it would be. It just sucks that takes so long to heal. But the bruising has gone down and it's not as swollen today. It should be fine in a couple of days.

I have jammed my finger before and it certainly does not feel good. I also
cracked the nail of my left big toe and a yeast infection later developed
there.
