Just bought all the new slim DVD sets. $15 a piece at Best Buy. - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

First I must say I have never seen the show and I do not own the old box sets. I honestly just decided like a month ago that I was going to start watching this show. The price was too good to pass up so why buy the old box sets? These sets are pretty nice actually. Obviously, I noticed that Seasons 7-9 have yet to be released on DVD. Then I noticed that the first six seasons were being re-released in slimmer packaging this fall. I know it is a stupid move for Sony to test the waters. Most everyone who wants Seasons 1 -6 already owns them. These will likely not sell well. The unbelievably stupid "Best of" DVDs coming out later this year will sell very poorly I predict. I know not many folks (except me who just decided to start watching) are going to buy these new season sets, but I figured I would just help out the cause. If these sell well, and that's a big if, maybe Seasons 7-9 will follow. If not, we can tape them off TVLand until at least 2011. I am taping Season 8 right now.

So, anyone think these sets will sell well enough to warrant a demand for Seasons 7-9? Does anyone think my purchases will help?

I doubt it. At least I tried to help the cause. I know most of you hardcore fans on here have the sets you want, but if you know anyone who wants a new show to watch you should recommend AITF to them and maybe, just maybe, they will buy these new sets. There is a entirely new generation of sitcom nuts (I am 22 years old so I am included) who are just beginning to watch these old shows and if we all spread the word on how great this show is (I know it will be great, I watch The Jeffersons) maybe it can see a surge in popularity and warrant further DVD releases. A few people I know my age are getting into old shows like this, including one of my best friends. I wonder if Sony is doing anything to promote these new, slimmer season sets. This is the perfect time for them to advertise this show to a new generation of TV-DVD collectors.

7 Years ago, I had no idea Sony would some try slimy sh*t like this after 6 seasons of a show is released they decide to re-release the same sh*T. If I had know this I would have never bought a Sony Show on DVD

I think lots of folks would delay if they could see cheaper prices coming. That just makes sense to a point. However, I do consider myself and my family as fans of the show. Of course we bought each season dutifully because we knew that there are classic episodes in every single season which will never lose their "laugh factor". After all this time, we've probably viewed each season between 25 and 100 times and often times know which discs a particular episode or episodes appear on.

It hurts deeply that we may never see uncut episodes of classics in the remaining seasons including Edith's 50th Birthday. Then again, we could be looking at a situation like Brady Bunch where if we had waited to get the entire series run, we'd have cool extras that still haven't been available seperate from the boxed set.

Sure, we'd love to sell off the seasons and consider getting the boxed set, but used, nobody is going to pay even 5.00 a season knowing they can pay 15.00 and get it new. So that means in order to buy the boxed set, shelling out around 85-125.00.

Lots of people I've spoken with basically have said they are on an all or nothing vibe so they don't miss out on the extas we all deserve and want. (Hail to Shoutfactory for its hard work on extras!!!) It really hurts though that it seems our loyalty isn't appreciated enough to do as they did with the M*A*S*H sets and put out the bonus materials at a later date in DVD format for those of us who do our best to stay up to date and own each season as it comes out to retail.

Some say look what's going on with Blu Ray sets that are coming out with extras the DVD doesn't have. I may be off my rocker here but, I am begining to wish that studios would just allow us to pay a flat fee monthly for access to the content we love and desire without a wait. If a site can do the same thing for music, why can't we have it for video?

I'm watching to see how the "full series" of Ally McBeal sells out of the gate. Maybe, just maybe, that's an interesting move and we can have it for all the shows not on the DVD platform if it sells well. In the meantime we can only hope sony at the very least puts these episodes uncut on the net for us to watch much as hulu has done or for a monthly fee.

If shows are produced or put on the airwaves and other formats for us fans, I pray soon that the companies give us a chance to help them make good money in a way that we can afford and enjoy the original episodes for the rest of our days. Until that day comes, we are either at the mercy of the studios or as some may suggest, it will help us get a life outside of scripted entities. And away from our screens.
