Default Freddie's Mother

I'm sure sooner or later I will discover why, but does anyone here know why His mother's name was primarily known as "Maria Pruetzel", and I delve further to discover it says "Aurea Ruiz". Was Maria another name she was known by latter on, just like I hear Freddie was sometimes known as "Pete". Name change? I know in her book published in '78 "Maria Pruetzel" was listed as the author. It's not like I went snooping- I discovered this by accident last night.

Hope all is well with everyone.

-Andrea76

PS: Aurea is a beautiful name, and it's meaning is beautiful too. No surprise she had a beautiful son!!!

According to The Freddie Prinze Story, by Maria Pruetzel (1978), Maria
met Edward Karl Pruetzel, in Germany in 1934. She was Puerto Rican; he was
Hungarian. On June 22, 1954, their son was born and was named Frederick
Karl Pruetzel. In 1972, he told his mother his ambition was to become "the
prince of comedy" and he changed his name to "Prinze," with a "z."

Question

I wonder who wrote Freddie's statistics on Wikipedia? I saw some errors but only the people who really really know Freddie should edit them.

It had been years until just now I looked up the Wikipedia article, thanx to the link from Andrea above. I may have hallucinated the whole thing LOL, but it occurs to me that both Luckymama and I contributed to that article, mostly using Maria Pruetzel's book as a reference. I was always under the impression that his parents met in the US and his mother's name was Maria--I haven't read the book in even longer, don't recall her name being Aurea and his parents meeting in Germany.

I think her real name is Maria and they met each other in the United States not Germany. But like always we may have some wrong information. I guess we'll have to look into this.

Maria and Karl met at a hotdog stand in new york. she didnt speak much english so Karl came by to help her. Thats how freddies parents met. Karl was from Germany and immigrated to the united states. Karl was of german descent. but freddie called himself a hungarican. Freddie Jr said his father was german and puertorican in his Howard Stern interview. Freddie was not jewish. You can find the transcript of the freddie Jr howard Stern interview at freddieprinzejr.com

I'd love to have this name if it's hers, and it probably is.

Thanks everyone for information.

freddie's mother's name is maria, but people close to her call her mary. Freddie jr called her mary in the acess hollywood clip where his father got the star on the walk of fame.

I believe you, and always believed "Maria" to be it. Would love to know where other came from and why.

A PS to this:

Giving thought- if it's not a typo of sorts, maybe Aurea (name stated at page) was her birth name, and it was changed later. My grandparents name were different and somewhat Americanized later on.

OK, A person who shares my affection for Freddie and teaching me sent me a copy of Freddie's death certificate (sorry to be morbid). I think someone boo-booed on that page with "Aurea" - or the above stated is true because it gave Her maiden name and it's Maria and gave the complete name before it became Pruetzel.

Well, We know Aurea is/was someone's mother!! I'm impressed with myself, since I've been here, I've discussed my bad tattoo expierence and posted a link with objectionable information to which I apologize if I've caused any confused feelings as I've had or any negative feelings. Every board has a villiage idiot- and I guess the honors mine here.

Love you all,
Andrea
