CHICAGO -- The author of a new book about Bernie Madoff says heavy investment losses will force Mets owner Fred Wilpon to sell the team, a claim the Mets adamantly denied Friday.
Erin Arvedlund, author of "Too Good to Be True," told Jon Friedman of Marketwatch: "It's a matter of when. It could be as soon as next year." The Wilpon family was hit hard by the Madoff ponzi scheme. Wilpon's friend, CNN's Larry King, told GQ magazine last month that Wilpon lost $700 million. But the Mets have insisted the losses will not impact daily operations of the team, and refuted Arvelund's claim Friday. "The author of the book has no knowledge or facts related to the Mets business operations or finances," the team said in a statement. "Her speculation that the Mets -- or any part of the team -- is for sale is completely false and is irresponsible." http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/200...sses_from.html |

I hadn't realized that Fred Wilpon was one of Bernie Madoff's victims. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out going forward.

The fact that the Mets are the reason the Phillies had a World Series Parade, they need to be sold.

And to think, Sports Illustrated picked the Mets to win the World Series.
They're not even going to finish above .500. |
