Question How do you deal with bullies, and smug jerks??

I've had many run ins with such people, but the most recent one happened a few days ago when I went to the pharmacy to pick up some medications. I went to get my medications, and as soon as I got there, I saw this pharmacy guy belittling one of his employees. It pissed me off, but obviously I said nothing. I had had two prior run ins with this particular jerk before, but this one took the cake, and I snapped. He came to help me and I said hi, I'm here to pick up a couple med...... before I could finish he cut me of with a really snide, wait until you're spoken to before you speak. I looked at him, snickered, and said are you ****ing kidding me??? Then when he looked up and started talking to me, I said to him, first of all, don't you ever disrespect me like that again. You may get your jollies from talking that way to other customers or co-workers, but don't you dare speak to me like that!!! Then I threw in an unecessary, but funny ****, you treat me like I'm an idiot, I have a 142 iq bro, and am probably smarter than you. lol!! After I said what I said, the guy was noticeably embarrassed as I had said this in front of one of his co-workers. I noticed that she had a half smile on her face as if she had been waiting for someone to put this pompous ass in his place. lol!! The guy said not another word, handed me my meds, and I walked away with my head held high. How do you guys deal with people like this, do you take my approach, or do you usually just keep quiet, or do you deal with it in another way? I'm just curious.

I handle things like you did. Not too long ago I was in a grocery store and this manager acted the same way toward his employees which immediately pissed me off. I let it go until he starts messing around on the intercom which they have turned up too high. He kept calling various people and I got so annoyed that I went to the back and asked to speak with him. I told him that one, the intercom is turned up too high and hurts my ears it sounds like they're yelling and two, it sounds very unprofessional and disturbs paying customers. I also told him that if he has an issue with a worker call them aside and speak with them in private. He appologized which I was surprised.

This is just me, but if that guy got in my face I'd kick his ass.

Oh believe me, I was tempted to kick his scrawny little punk ass. If it weren't for the guard in the office, I just might have too. I've seriously never been that blatantely disrespected by a supposed professional in my life. I was literally shocked when he spoke to me that way. I'm no push over though, so hopefully he learned not to ever disrespect me like that in the future. If he does, he'll get a response tenfold to what he got the other day!!!!!!!

I'm not as tough and outspoken as you are. I would have notified the manager about that employee and let the manager know I was taking my business elsewhere. I can't stand people like that.

Well I think your approach is definitely the best way Kristen. I just can't stand bullies, and tend to stand up to them to let them know that they don't intimidate me one bit. I wouldn't care if he was 6'5" and 300 pounds, you aren't going to intimidate me, PERIOD!!! I did report the guy btw, and told one of the doctors what he said, as well as the way he had treated his fellow employee. Hopefully more people will do the same thing so that he stops treating people so poorly, or gets fired which I wouldn't shed any tears over.

lol I wish I could be like that and tell people off, but usually I just do my best to avoid those types of people. I hate conflict, so I usually just don't bother so I don't starting something. I'm also really bad at defending myself on the spot. So yeah, I'm pretty good at letting people walk all over me. Easier than arguing.

Usually I would just let them intimidate me - I'm not very good at standing up for myself.

I'm sorry to hear that people tend to walk all over you Ashlee. I can guarantee you that if they treated you that way around me, they'd get one good butt whooping. It wasn't always easy for me to stick up to bullies either. It wasn't until I decided that I wasn't going to let some jerk get the best of me, that I made the decision to start standing up for myself and others. The first couple times it was hard, but it gets easier the more you do it. Now I don't even hesitate to speak up when I feel I've been insulted, or worse, if someone bullies a family member. In those situations I actually have given a few ass whoopings. You never bully a guys mother!!!!!!! Just remember that you can always change, and grow, and hopefully one day you won't feel like people are walking all over you. You seem like a tough cookie to me, so I can see you improving.

I have a hard time standing up for myself and I tend to let people walk all over me too, but I plan on trying to assert myself more often. I'm going to start at my work.

I wish I could have told him off like that. I just would have cussed to myself and stopped going there.

Haha well thanks. I'm all talk, I'm a pretty big wimp. It's not like a get bullied because I don't put myself out there enough to get bullied. Of course if it got to a point where it was that bad, I would definitely say something.

I would have probably done what you did. You didn't give this man any reason to be disrespectful to you.

I don't know... fortunately, I haven't had to deal with too much of that... and if someone I have no connection with, and don't know at all (like someone in customer service or something), I'd just ignore them... cause I know they aren't meaning it to be personal, so I don't give a crap anyway. But if someone I work with or go to school with ever talks to me like that, I usually just get snippy right back at them. And in a way, I start to immitate them in a funny way, which usually puts an end to their attitude.

By the way, damn, you rock, Brad!!

That was me; I was always just nobody so no one bothered me.
