Movie Limited Release for John Landis' "Burke & Hare"

Simon Pegg to Topline John Landis' Burke and Hare
Sunday, August 23, 2009
By: MrDisgusting

Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Shaun of the Dead) is set to topline John Landis' (American Werewolf in London, Twilight Zone: The Movie, "Thriller") latest horror opus, Burke and Hare, which is lensing in London later this summer, reports Dread Central.

Based on a true story, Burke And Hare is about two 19th century graverobbers who find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school.

Here's the tagline we just got our hands on:
"No job too small, no body too big, no questions asked."

Some huge news out of this morning's AFM in Santa Monica as Bloody Disgusting has learned that the incredible Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters) will be joining Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), David Tennant ("Doctor Who") and Bill Nighy (Underworld films) in the John Landis dircted black comedy Burke and Hare.

Burke and Hare Casting Changes
Source: Simon Pegg
January 20, 2010

Shaun of the Dead's Simon Pegg has a new partner in crime: Andy Serkis.

The Lord of the Rings star and all-around crumb from The Cottage is playing Hare opposite to Pegg's Burke in the John Landis film Burke and Hare.

Pegg revealed the news to the Twitter-verse after former Dr. Who David Tenant dropped out of the picture.

Shooting Begins on Landis' Burke and Hare
Source: Shock Till You Drop
February 4, 2010

John Landis has begun principal photography on Burke & Hare.

Joining Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis, as graverobbers William Burke and William Hare, respectively, are:

Isla Fisher (Confessions of a Shopaholic)
Jessica Hynes (Spaced)
Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins)
Tim Curry (Stephen King's It)
Ronnie Corbett
Reece Shearsmith (The Cottage)
David Schofield
Allan Corduner
Bill Bailey
Hugh Bonneville
Michael Smiley
...and Sir Christopher Lee!

Landis describes the film as a "black romantic comedy" in spite of its story which is a comedic take on the true story of the 1828 Edinburgh body-snatchers Burke and Hare.

These two Irish entrepreneurs discover that a dead body can fetch a hefty price when the demands of the leading medical professors Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson) and Dr. Monroe (Tim Curry) reach beyond that of the local supply.

That's quite a cast! This is Landis' first fictional feature since the '90s.

He's spent the last decade working on short films, television projects (Masters of Horror) and documentaries (Slasher).

First Pics of Pegg and Serkis as Burke and Hare
Source: Shock Till You Drop
February 24, 2010

A Shock reader tipped us off to the first image of Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis from John Landis' upcoming horror/comedy Burke and Hare, which originated in the British tabloid The Sun.

Landis describes the film as a "black romantic comedy" in spite of its story which is a comedic take on the true story of the 1828 Edinburgh body-snatchers Burke and Hare.

We're looking forward to this one.

It's good to see Landis doing horror again. Just as long as it's not another The Stupids.

Simon Pegg Talks Burke and Hare
28 March 2010

Burke and Hare pairs Pegg with Andy Serkis as notorious Edinburgh corpse-peddlers William Burke and William Hare in John Landis' big screen return.

Expect moral ambiguity in spades. "It's about two guys who murder for money but you're encouraged to like them and be on their side," Pegg told us.

"It's interesting morally because it challenges the audience's perception of who they are. It's light-hearted but there's a very dark, unsettling truth at the heart of it."

And what of the body count?

"The gore comes more from the medical side, when they hand over the bodies, but yeah, you see pretty gruesome stuff."

I haven't heard anything yet.

They pitch the film to distributors over at Cannes so it should be revealed soon on who is going to pick it up.

Cool. I bet it will only be released in big cities though, I may have to travel to see it.

Landis Talks Burke & Hare Horror, New Image
Thursday, July 15, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

USA Today caught up with John Landis on the Edinburgh set of Burke & Hare where they talked about the horror aspects of the comedy, and posted the following new image.

"It has horror things within it — it's about dissection and grave robbing, after all — but it's a very black romantic comedy, hopefully in the tradition of the old Ealing Studios' Kind Hearts and Coronets and The Ladykillers," Landis says.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

From director John Landis (An American Werewolf in London) comes Burke & Hare, a comedic take on the true story of the 1828 Edinburgh body-snatchers William Burke (Simon Pegg) and William Hare (Andy Serkis).

These two Irish entrepreneurs discover that a dead body can fetch a hefty price when the demands of the leading medical professors Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson) and Dr. Monroe (Tim Curry) reach beyond that of the local supply.

With AFM just around the corner, Bloody Disgusting scored a look at the official UK trailer that looks pretty damn fun.
