Default Are you protective of your fav movies/shows/performers etc.?

I try not to be. But I can't help it, Im weird, when I read something bad about someone I like online, I'll get pissed then forget about it, but when I hear it, it plays in my mind like a broken record and sometimes I wont forget who said it, cause I have a photogenic memory and I remember everything LOL. I swwar sometimes i won't even say who I like/what I like because of SOME people not everyone, and then they act like it's a crime that I like it,even when it's something everyone likes LOL

kind of. i don't get mad if people have differing opinions on a movie or show i like or an actor's performance but i hate when people dissect their personal lives because usually i admire the actor in real life and don't want to hear something that will tarnish what i think of them. luckily i like old time actors who don't make the news anymore and are pretty much forgotten but i still stay away from message boards devoted to them because i don't want to hear about some scandal dug up from the past that will keep me from enjoying their work. but like i said if someone is just making fun of the movie or show i like or being critical of a performance it doesn't bother me, just don't want to hear someone trashing the actor in real life or bringing up rumors/scandals etc.

Yeah. At least when they say something stupid that has no basis from anything. Saying "I don't like him" is one thing. I have no problem with that. It's when they insult that pisses me off. "So and So is the WORST actor ever!!" Yeah, and I bet you're great.

I post a lot on an Audrey Hepburn board and every now and then I'll wander over to other sites where people talk about Audrey. On the board that I go to regularly, Audrey is basically worshiped by us, and rarely if ever have I seen a negative comment. However, it kind of angers me when I read these other sites talking about how she was anorexic and so forth. It's simply not true, but people have a right to say what they want. I guess it's a little like being a certain religion and believing certain things. Then you go to another church and are shocked when you hear people saying that what you believe is wrong.
I'm kind of that way with other celebs too, like Jerry Seinfeld and Harry Connick Jr.

I think most people who are die-hard fans of a TV show or an actor/actress are that way, even if they aren't as sensitive about it.

Mostly, I don't like the gossipy stuff that I hear a lot. If I like a certain person and I found out that they smoked (yet they never smoke on TV or in movies, or whatever), it would bother me. There are some things I'd rather not know.

thats how i feel cathy. thats why i avoid message boards about my fav. stars, i picture them one way in my head and i dont' want it tainted by gossip. i stay away from biographies and even autobiographies for that reason too. i remember my first crush was on dean cain when i was in 6th grade. i worshipped him. i used to buy those mags like tiger beat/16 etc. those fluff mags with the pin-ups and i had a huge scrapbook of magazine clippings on him. anyway i read an interview he did with entertainment weekly one day and he came off sounding like a real jerk in it (i'm not sure if he is one or it was just the tone of the article) but it shattered my perception of him. he definately didn't sound like sweet, mild mannered 'clark' lol.

If it's just someone saying that someone's music/films etc isn't to their taste, then I'm fine with that, as I don't expect everyone to like the same music or films or shows as I do.

However, when people insult them with no justification and no knowledge about the people, that gets me quite angry. Although I haven't met any of the people that I'm a fan of, I know a lot about them from documentaries and biographies - so when someone says something insulting that is undeserved that makes me quite angry and I usually defend them.

Hmmm, I don't know... I don't really consider myself a 'die-hard' fan of anyone... it's just not me at all. I'm more the type that goes through phases of loving certain shows/actors/bands etc. And I think it's interesting how some people have these 'illusions' about famous people, I just see them as everyday people who have the same faults as everyone else... I can understand how hearing something negative about someone, that maybe turned out to be true, could tarnish your feelings for them though.

In life you will find that not everyone likes the same things. For me I am actually interested in wanting to know why you don't like a particular thing.

However, I can do without those that make baseless opinions such as "So-and-so sucks!" with nothing else to add. If you think something is horrible, or corny/cheesy.. or whatnot I would like to know why as I like to see differing opinions.

Also, I am more interested to hear why you don't like something if you actually "tried it out" before making an opinion. I will look at an opinion more closely of someone who has actually watched the movie/show in question over someone who didn't that's merely commenting on how "something looks" and why they don't want to bother with it. Everyone has a right to make an opinion but I pay more attention to those who have seen or heard the topic first-hand and then states something.

By the way, I never understood why people keep fantasies/illusions about certain celebrities in their head. In my opinion this is more of a "girl thing" I think.

So you would rather keep some fantasy in your head and not want to know more real facts? I don't get the logic in this.

Thumbs up

Yes, this is why I never read the comments on YouTube. When I'm watching a video of one of my favorite bands, and especially if it's the singer I like(which alot ot times, it is), they always make their stupid comments about how the singer sucks. Oh yeah, he sucks, I guess that would explain why he's still the singer so many years later!! I mean I'm all for people having opinions, but when you got people making comments about somebody sucking based on this one video, and you're not even familiar with the band's music, I don't think anybody has the right to make such a snide comment.

Another reason I stopped posting on the TVLand/N@N board. I like the show Wings and people would go on the Wings board and say how it's the worst show ever, or how much it sucked. EVER??!! Pleez, there are far more worst shows in the whole history of TV. Some didn't even last half as much as Wings did, which it was on for 8 years. OK, if you don't like the show, fine, there are plenty of shows that I don't like, but you don't see me going on those forums and saying how much they suck!!

I try not to be overprotective of my tastes because I find it annoys people. If people dont share my tastes in music and TV shows (which is a good portion of the people I know and meet). I just keep silent and change the subject to something else. I have bored many a people going on and on about music/books/films/TV shows that I really dig.

I try to take the attitude of differnt strokes for different folks. If someone trashes a show or celeb I like I kind of feel "well, that's your loss". Esp. when someone goes onto the shows bd to trash the show - 99%of the time they're just looking to stir things up.

i have no problem with someone saying their music isn't their cup of tea, but when they start being offensive and making ignorant, stupid comments about them, that's what when i start to get defensive.

I don't let it bother me too much. Everyone has different tastes and is entitled to their own opinion. What really gets me is when people insult other people for liking something they don't or vice versa. Telling me you don't like country music won't get me upset; calling me stupid for liking it will.
