TV Shows that were time-sped in U.S. Syndication - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Not counting any U.S. Filmed shows that aired in PAL territories like the U.K., which U.S. Shows can you think of that were time-sped in U.S. Syndication?

Pretty Much any show distributed by Worldvision: Scooby Doo: Where Are You, The Doris Day Show, Little House on the Prairie, The Fugitive (before all those pointless and stupid music changes made by CBS/Paramount), and Combat! come to mind.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Most of the Ruby-Spears run, including some of the MWS episodes were time-sped. On most episodes, Ross Jr. talked like he swallowed a years worth of helium.

Some shows on GSN.

I think he is talking about shows like House of Payne and Meet the Browns, which had 80 episode orders so they could get syndication money.

I remember hearing something about the Simpsons being time compressed, but I never really noticed when I watched it in syndication years ago.

No, folks, what I meant by time-sped was shows where all the actors talk in a higher pitch, and the music is in a higher pitch, and everything in the episode is sped-up.

The reason why some syndicators time-sped certain shows is so that they could make way for more commercials, without cutting any footage.

Networks actually speed up the dialogue of shows to make room for more commercials? I have never seen anything like that before . . .

the other day i saw an ep of touched by an angel on hallmark and the theme song was really time sped

Me either. I've seen RTN speed up end credits, but that's it.

GSN is notorious for it, especially with Family Feud. TVLand does it to Roseanne all the time.

I've never noticed it done to shows, either. Just the end credits on some shows.

I remember reading somewhere years ago that some stations do that with movies, though.

And when they had the Bill Cullen version of Blockbusters they did the same thing with that show. Same with Who Wants to be a Millionaire, too. I notice nowadays how fast Regis talks during the Fastest Finger Questions and the music cues sounding extra rushed. And when they show the 1979-82 daytime syndie-era of "Match Game," it's sped up sometimes, too.

Sometimes Boomerang does this practice on the 1960s version of "The Jetsons" episodes sometimes, too.

Also Worldvision does this to "The Streets of San Francisco" (also a Quinn Martin show) too.

I've read that the closing credits for "My Three Sons" syndicated episodes have been time-sped. And you need a quick eye to pick up the names of the guest actors while they flash by, so it's probably true.
