Question How did it compare to the original?

How do fans of the original Munsters series feel about the updated version? What did you like/dislike about it?

I think "Munsters Today" ran 1988-91. It was really horrible, though -- lousy scripts and cheap-looking (it was videotaped instead of filmed!). John Schuck was terrible as Herman! When did Herman get so fat?

Lee Meriweather was a pretty good Lily, though.

I think the black & white are probably better.

The Black and white ones are way better. They have a warmth and feeling. All while trying to entertain and make you laugh. The man who played Herman in this newer series never saw the old episodes with Fred Gwynn. In 1995 and 1997 there were 2 "Munster" movies with different characters. In the first Munster movie, a brief cameo from the origianl cast came in at a retaraunt in their original type costumes.

I saw the original cast make a cameo appearance in the original 1990's Munsters tv movie (all except for Gwynne who had died in real life). The original actors were all dressed normal but they acted kooky!

Thumbs down New vs old Munsters

Can't Compare!

I have seen the new Munsters and they can't hold a candle to the originals! As the saying goes,"You can't improve on perfection!" Ain't it the truth?
I'd like to correspond via e-mail to any or all fans of the original Munsters! :(

The Munsters Today was WELL superior to The Munsters. I am saying this because its my opinion, NOT because I want to start a giant debate with other fans of the original... Everyone is entitled to their opinion in this world, of course.

The Munsters Today was HUGELY successful here in the UK, and ran for three re-run series over two years on our ITV. I am working on an online petition for the show to come to video/DVD here in the UK.

People slag the show off for not matching the original, and most peoples gripes are with the characters. Having spoken to cast and crew I'll be displaying my "interesting" analysis of the show on my website... and some truths about the adaption of the show from the original and the similarities and the differences: a lot of the props from the original show were used on the re-make, like the clock, the organ and the doors etc. Shame the stairs were destroyed in a fire as I would have LOVED em for my house.

Chiao, cheers, peace... Frank

The "Munsters Today" was awful.

It's like comparing a Dodge Dart to a Ferrari.

Different things work for different people I suppose... But that does not mean that something is bad, wrong or a load of rubbish. Did the Munsters Today mentally or physically hurt anyone? I think now... so its all just down to differences in opinion, and the UK Munsters fans in this case disagree with the USA Munsters fans... Fair enough.

Ciao, peace, cheers

I've seen the first 4 episodes and the Pilot. It's ok, but very very corny.
