Thumbs up Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine Opening up A School of Metal

Megadeth frontman DAVE MUSTAINE is planning to open up the band's California recording studio to under-privileged kids - to teach them about rock 'n' roll.
The rockers own a building in San Diego, California which has housed all their recording equipment over the last few years.
But Mustaine has decided to make better use of the space by turning it into a learning centre for children from deprived backgrounds - and he has vowed to teach them all to play instruments.
He tells Britain's Kerrang magazine, "I want to give something back. I'm not one of these guys who needs a lot of money, but because I've been so overpaid during my career I'm going to invite some inner-city kids to the studio and teach them about music.
"Some of these kids have the talent, but not the means to show it. Wouldn't it be awesome to find a kid and bless his life with music and give him a career?"

Cool Dave's School of Rock

Dave Mustaine is awesome. You couldn't expect that from Lars "Stars" Ulrich.

I've read that's his actual nickname, which he got after he got MAJOR rich following the success of the 'Black' album in 1991. Went from being the thrashing hesher dude into a fancy art afficianado in Frisco.

Sounds like he became the metal version of Puff Daddy/Puffy/Diddy whatever he calls himself now - a sell-out.

Let's see, did he ever do anything with P. Diddy?? I'll check. I do know he was/is a fan of Fred Durst.

Wow! Never in my life did I ever think I would hear (or read about) a celebrity admitting to being overpaid! I've never even heard of this guy and I'm already impressed with his honesty!

It's great that he's using his talents to help underpriviledged kids! Imagine the thrill that these kids will have, knowing they will be taught by a star!!

Cool

People have ragged on Dave Mustaine for years for acting like a "jerk", and sometimes, he has been guilty as charged. Dave is a Christian, and happens to be painfully honest and outspoken. He's been overpaid, as he admits, so he realizes the need to use his money toward a good end, teaching poor kids about music. He is a class act, and one thing that we can appreciate about him is that even though he's messed up a number of times and admitted it, it's a thousand times better than the guys out there in music who never change or stop being jerks.

Dave Mustaine is a true hero in metal. Over twenty years ago when I was rediscovering metal, I got into Megadeth before I got into Metallica. I got interested in Metallica, but Megadeth did it for me first.

Dave Mustaine should be glad he's not in Metallica, in spite of what that movie 'Some Kind Of Monster' seemed to indicate. Why? Two words: 'Load' album. Metallica's 1996 "sell-out" album. Where the band shaved their hair and acted trendy. LARS and Kirk both wanted to act like they were in U2 during the 'Zooropa' phase, pretend they were gay and be as UN-metal as possible. Can you imagine a Dave Mustaine with cropped hair dressed in fancy designer threads and tons of piercings? Didn't think so.

Even Dave said that the movie lied when it indicated he was allegedly "jealous" that he was no longer in Metallica. If Cliff Burton were still alive, there would be none of this selling-out business by the band. They definitely lost their focus after he died.
