Thumbs down Moviefone's Top 15 Most Ludicrous Direct-To-Video Sequels

Hollywood's clear lack of original ideas is a pestilence much bemoaned by movie buffs. We see sequel after remake after TV show-turned-movie after prequel after comic book adaptation after "reboot" after ... Hasbro toys and game boards?!

But unless you regularly scour the New Releases section of your local video store Blockbuster, you may not actually realize how severe The Sequel Pandemic -- as we'll call it -- has gotten.

For every sequel released theatrically, there are thrice that number released straight to DVD. Oftentimes they happen to really decent movies, movies that did nothing to deserve the embarrassing stigma of a horrendous, star-less straight-to-DVD sequel.

Warning: There were no special effects (or Photoshopping) involved in the making of this article. What you are about to see are ACTUAL DVD titles released into the world.

Road Trip: Beer Pong (2009)

Come on. "DJ Qualls being available" is not reason enough to go here...

Cruel Intentions 3 (2004)

Yep, this means there was also, in fact, a Cruel Intentions 2.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure (2003)

Wouldn't you rather not know what Randy Quaid is up to now?

Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective (2009)

Half the size. Twice as annoying.

Into the Blue 2: The Reef (2005)

Replacing Paul Walker and Jessica Alba are ... Chris Carmack (The Butterfly Effect 3, Bring It On Again) and Laura Vandervoot!

Legally Blondes (2009)

As if one bad sequel, a Broadway show and a reality TV show about the casting of that Broadway show weren't enough, there's this.

Road House 2: Last Call (2006)

OK, this one we kind of want to see.

Dr Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (2009)

This is Dr. Dolittle 5, for those keeping score at home. Yes, Part 5.

Open Water 2: Adrift (2006)

Based on a true story. Again!

Inspector Gadget 2 (2003)

French Stewart: He looks just like Matthew Broderick, if you're high enough to rent this.

Save The Last Dance 2 (2006)

But it was supposed to be the last dance!

Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001)

Blasphemy.

The Prince and Me 3: Royal Honeymoon (2008)

From the director of 'The Prince and Me 2,' and the upcoming 'Prince and Me 4.' And also, 'In the Heat of Passion 2: Unfaithful.'

Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (2002)

This time ... One of the robbers is a woman!

White Noise 2 (2007)

If we make the DVD covers similar enough, maybe you'll pick this one off the shelf by accident!

American Psycho 2 (2002)

UPDATE: We attempted to cap ourselves at 15, but this just-discovered, absurdly-real DVD sequel (starring Mila Kunis and William Shatner?!) is too hard to pass up.

I thought Mila Kunis was good in American Psycho 2. The movie wasn't great but she was good at playing a killer. I'm surprised the Bring It On series isn't on the list.

When this first came out I was tempted to pick it up because I like Kunis. The video clerk said "Don't even bother." when I went to look at it so I never bothered with it.

I'm surprised S. Darko didn't make the list.

I saw American Psycho 2 on Showtime and then later on I think Sci-Fi or USA showed it. I thought it was a little bit better than I expected. I read some bad reviews on S. Darko.

I rarely bother with direct-to-dvd sequels but being the huge Donnie Darko fan that I am I had to see what S. Darko was about. I wasn't impressed at all.

I haven't seen S. Darko yet. If it comes out on cable or maybe I'll watch it through netflix. I'm surprised that The Subsitutue sequels didn't end up on that list.

I also would have included The Butterfly Effect sequels, Urban Legends: Final Cut and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

I thought Urban Legends: Final Cut was awful. I haven't seen The Butterfly Effect sequels or I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

Oh yeah, Urban Legends: Final Cut was crap. Sometimes there is a reason why these flicks go straight-to-DVD... lol

I believe it was - I don't remember it being in the theaters.
