Does Anyone Love Season 8 Like I Do?

I just recently signed up for this forum and my goodness I have read so many negative comments about Season 8, with the exception of Mr. Tate!! I, for one, love season 8 and I do not think it was all remakes. One, however, I did notice was the very last episode, but it was a reversal so to speak. I think Bewitched only got better and I for one think it showed how a marriage progressed over the course of 8 years and it is great that the writers kept up with the times for example "Are you out of your tree"? and I believe this began with the 7th season. I have watched season 8 at least 7 times since I bought it the day it came out and honestly I am glad Liz followed her heart, but if she did come back for season 9, I think it would have been just as great as season 8. I read a lot of the older archives and found many of the guest do not like Mr. Sargeant, but Oh my Stars he was a good match for Liz. They absolutely loved each other and it showed. I think if he was the 1st and left after season 5 then most would favor him, but I think he is just so cute and warm. Don't get me wrong, I love each season because they capture the evolving marriage, but season 8 is my all time favorite then I would say 7. I never once saw Liz being "Mad", "Peeved", or "Lazy", I for one would say it was just her character being married almost 9 years!!

So with that being said, I have all seasons now and can not wait for the box set which I will be purchasing!! To me, Bewitched is like a fine wine it only gets better the older it gets!!

I'm glad to see someone is enjoying season 8, while it's not my favorite season there are some great episodes I enjoy.

I have seen the whole season & very much enjoyed all of it, had a wonderful time.

I think aspects of it being simply different such as clothes, makeup, hairstyle, sets etc made some people dislike it rather then evaluate it based on it's own merits.

Still i believe that the vast majority of fans of the show like & are enjoying season 8.

Same thing with Dick Sargent, it wasn't about him but rather that he is not Dick York that caused some people to go off the rails & hate him no matter how good he was or wasn't in the role.

I agree with all you stated about season 8 & re Dick Sargent, you expressed yourself very well & with accuracy.

I actually never saw any episodes of season 7 or 8 until I got the DVD's. I can truly say that the last 3 seasons of Bewitched, I enjoyed very much (I have a lot of favorite episodes from those years). I also prefer Dick Sargent as Darrin (could be because I've seen Dick Sargent in so many other shows and liked his style).

I like season 8. There were some good episodes in that season, but its not as good as the previous 7. Still havent picked this up yet though.

Thank you so much for welcoming me to this great and wonderful forum!! I enjoyed reading all the older archives that I believe dated back to 2001 maybe earlier. I remember Bewitched re-runs when I was a kid, but they were all cut. Maybe someone can help me out with the parts that were cut from the syndicated years from each season. I know this may take some time and maybe we can start a new thread for that.

I guess I am a bit bias to seasons 7 and 8 because I started watching them in grad school and loved Sam and Serena's look and started buying clothes from that era. Believe it or not, they are pretty hip now!! LOL

Not sure if anyone is aware of this, but I read on the net that they are doing a film about our Lady Liz and Christina Applegate is going to play the role of Liz! Does anyone know any trivia about her mother? I will give you a hint! She played a role in season 7! I think they are both beautiful and talented women (mother and daughter that is) and Liz was too!!

Nancy Lee Priddy an actress was Christina Applegate's Mother, she appeared in the 7th season episode #203 "The Salem Saga" as one of the two Stewardess's & as well in episode #226 " "Samantha's Magic Sitter".

Of course there have been many different stations showing different edited syndicated episodes of Bewitched, in most cases they showed different cuts of prints that had different edits in each case.
Nick @ Night, TV Land, TBS & Hallmark all had different prints with different edits in each case.

If you had seen all of these versions of an episode then you most likely had through them all seen it in it's entirety.

Thank you Mr. Tate. I didn't know each station edited certain parts. However, I do remember Nick at Nite editing a lot of season 8 because when I watched them for the first time in several years by purchasing the DVD, I noticed things I hadn't noticed before.

I just love "Samantha's Magic Mirror". That episode is down right hiliarious and each time I watch it that episode cracks me up! When Darrin says to Samantha "You better get those weirdos out of here ..." and when the more confident Esmeralda starts hitting on Larry that is just funny!

Okay here's going out on a limb, but if the 9th season did exist, I think a great finale would be Darrin and Larry partnering in their business aka McMann, Tate and Stephens! Also more episodes with Serena, focusing more on Adam's powers, Tabitha in 3rd grade with another nosy teacher and maybe Samantha tackling the women's movement of that time and try part time working for example having a boss that is hitting on her and she show's him who's boss. Eh, just some thoughts, but it's always so fun to imagine you know!

By the way another trivia question. Which actress played various parts on Bewitched. She is still alive in her 80s and did Broadway for awhile. I always loved her and to give you hint she appeared in seasons 3, 6, 7 and 8. A client also fell for her by a spell. Laugh out Loud humor there! If you can't figure it out I will give you another hint. David White directed an episode with her!!

All stations pretty much cut the same amount from each episode, about
3 1/2 minutes.

That was Jane Connell you were referring too who was in
"Samantha's Double Mother Trouble" episode # 182 directed by David White.

I like the ideas you suggested for a season 9 except for the getting a job & womans lib bit, that would be too much of a case of using Bewitched as an ideological soapbox at the expense of the characters & the premise of the show.

You know I got to thinking today because I am back to watching season 1 again because my novio and I are going to watch 1 disc a night until we end at season 8. Everyone says there were a lot of remakes and he and I were thinking that maybe because seasons 1 and 2 were not shown because they were in B & W maybe they decided to remake the episodes in color so they could be played too!! Is there any truth in that? I told my novio that I see some episodes that are remade, but to me most of the episodes have new storylines. However, some of the episodes people think are remakes I just don't see it.

On your point about the made up storylines for a 9th season, maybe Serena in the work place? Ha! I think she would be a riot.

And now that I am re-examing all the shows from start to finish I have noticed that they can be compared to today for example in the late 60s-70s people were upset with the Vietnam War and Nixon like today the Iraq and Afghan war and Mr. Bush. And I am not trying to be all political just speaking from that time era and this time era. Womens rights were in the 70s vs. Gay rights today. Today we have a lot of popular drama's like Medium, Ghost Whisperer, Numb3rs, etc... that dabble in superstition so to speak.

Oh my stars, maybe I should write a book about the comparison of the two time periods. Mr Tate, do you know when the first sit com aired? I have no idea and I googled it too! By the way you are good with your trivia. I got another one for you!! What did Kasey Rogers do with her two portraits that were painted from the episode Mona Sammy? By the way, that was another hilarious episodes. I laugh so hard each time Larry calls it an atrocity and poor Louise thinks he is insulting her and Sam has to come up with a psychological explaination to give her!

One last question for you sir, do you know anything about the fan favorite Bewitched collection? Amazon has it currently priced around $15 USA so I take it won't include many episodes! Thanks

Hummm first sitcom, there was one with a real life married couple that even slept in the same bed together, i think it was called I Married Joan & was on around 1948.

The Fan favorite collection is just a 2 or 3 episode DVD in this case with Bewitched episodes The Joker is a Card debuting Uncle Arthur & 1 or 2 other episodes, all have been released on the DVD sets so i don't see a point to them at all unless one is not a fan of the show & only wants a few episodes because they are a fan of a particular actor.

$15 for 3 episodes when double that or less & you get all 36, so i don't see the point in it for Bewitched fans.

Kasey kept the two portraits after they were gifted to her by the producers, Mark Wood has them now.

All this recycled episode talk is a much ado about nothing.

The recycling point is of limited impact in my view as that has been overblown & exaggerated to the extreme, to the point that almost if Sam twitched her nose it is called a remake.

Or if an episode evolves Spells on Darrin or Transformations of Darrin,Witch Disease for Samantha, Going back in time, Historical Figures brought to the Present or Client Episodes it is called a remake.

This of course is just not so.
These were in affect sub-premises of the main premise of the show and nothing like a remake.

Even the remakes were turned around to such an extent that they were merely similar yet different episodes in of themselves with over 95% of the dialogue being new & different from the earlier versions.

In reality there were remakes as early as season two & evolved 2 per season in seasons,3,4,5 & 3 per seasons 6,7,8 until the last 3 or 4 episodes of season 8, hardly the all or almost all of the episodes that the later years or in Season 8 are claimed to have been remakes.

Of the ones that were remakes part of it was that they could do so with DS instead of DY as Darrin & as well that they were in color & not B/W so in effect they would be so different along those lines alone, plus they were about 5 or 6 years after the original so it most likely was thought that the original had been forgotten by then.

The B/W shows were still being shown in syndication till about season 5 in the daytime by ABC so it wasn't that they were not able to be seen.

I agree as well that most of the so called remakes i don't see it either and there just isn't any there there in such statements.
