"Death Race 2" Coming to DVD/Blu-ray 1/18/11
EXCL: Death Race Prequel is in the Garage
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor August 11, 2009 The origins of the deadly, fuel-injected game at the center of Paul W.S. Anderson's Death Race are going to be explored in an upcoming prequel. Tony Giglio (Timber Falls) has been hired to write a script, based on a story by Anderson, to be produced by Impact Pictures (Anderson and Jeremy Bolt's production outfit). Giglio may also direct. The script is said to delve into the past of the driver known as Frankenstein. Created for Paul Bartel's original 1975 cult classic, Death Race 2000, Frankenstein was played by the late David Carradine. In the film, history said that his face was mangled by so many car wrecks he had to wear an intimidating mask. Carradine returned to Anderson's remake briefly to voice the new Frankenstein before he was replaced by Jason Statham's Jensen Ames. Anderson and Bolt will oversee the Death Race prequel after they've completed Resident Evil: Afterlife on which Giglio will serve as a second unit director. Death Race grossed over $70 million worldwide in 2008. http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=11383 |

Even though the 2008 remake is set after 2000, Paul W.S. Anderson said it's a prequel.

Update: Universal Gives Green Light to Death Race 2
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor November 13, 2009 Update: Producer Jeremy Bolt informs us that the sequel will shoot next year and they're considering actors for the role of Frankenstein now. The budget will be lower than the first film. Some more on that sequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's Death Race that we broke the news about in August right here... Universal has officially given Death Race 2 the green light based on Tony Giglio's script. The follow-up, a prequel looking into the past of the race car driver known as Frankenstein, will be developed for the DVD market. The story is based on an idea by Anderson and a director is being sought. Giglio will not direct as previously reported; he's currently serving as a second unit director on Resident Evil: Afterlife which Anderson is at work on in Toronto. http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=12786 |

EXCL: The Death Race 2 Director is...
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor December 7, 2009 Universal Home Entertainment and Impact Pictures have tapped Roel Reiné to get in the driver's seat of Death Race: Frankenstein Lives, the direct-to-DVD sequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's Death Race. The film is a prequel, penned by Tony Giglio, once again set at Terminal Island where a man named Carl "Luke" Lucas enters the titular game. Essentially, it's a look at a previous "Frankenstein" before Anderson's film put Jason Statham into the boots of the character. Reiné, who hails from the Netherlands, recently wrapped another direct-to-DVD sequel, The Marine 2, and also helmed The Lost Tribe and the Lance Henriksen-starring Deadwater. He produced the upcoming Bear, a nature-run-amok thriller which arrives sometime next year. Now, the question is...who's going to be cast as "Frankenstein"? Keep your eyes peeled to Shock for more as it comes! http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=13084 |

EXCL: More Cast Details for Death Race: Frankenstein Lives
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor February 15, 2010 Lensing began in South Africa on Death Race: Frankenstein Lives over the weekend. Apropos as, at the same time, Florida hosted the Daytona 500 minus the murder and mayhem, of course. Shock Till You Drop has more details on who's joining Luke Goss and Tanit Phoenix in the prequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's 2008 film. Shock exclusively learned this afternoon that: - Sean Bean will co-star as Luke's old mob boss - Ving Rhames is the man responsible for giving the greenlight to the Death Race (he's apparently a "Rupert Murdoch" type) - Danny Trejo is Luke's pal in prison - and Frederick Koehler will reprise his role as "Lists." Anderson is on board as producer with Jeremy Bolt. Roel Reiné directs from a script by Tony Giglio. http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=14135 |

Exclusive : Phoenix talks Death Race 2
by Clint Morris Friday, May 28th, 2010 In "Death Race 2", Phoenix plays "Katrina Banks, she is an ex military sniper who is sent to jail for killing a superior officer. You find out why in the story line, but she is bad ass. She falls in love with Luke Goss' character the film. I get to navigate, and I do major stunts from climbing out of the speeding car and shoot other convicts, to being shot out of the car and landing with a safety chute. I also have an amazing scene with Sean Bean, one on one! So excited for this film to be released!" The pivotal question though, was Phoenix a BROS fan growing up? "I am too young to remember Luke [Goss's] band BROS. Luke did show me some of the music they made and their music videos, couple of hot boys!" http://www.moviehole.net/201025003-e...-2-lost-boys-3 |
