I also love "The Rainbow Connection"!!

I always loved Bert & Ernie, especially Ernie. When I was a kid, I even had a big puppet of Ernie & one of Cookie Monster.

I also like Oscar the Grouch(much like me!!)
Grover
Big Bird
Kermy
Miss Piggy(mostly because she doesn't take any crap from anybody!!)
Swedish Chef
Beeker
Count

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like Elmo!!

I havent seen this show in about 25 years so I have a couple of questions. Is Elmo a recent character because for the life of me I dont remember him when I was watching.

Also I hear they changed the Cookie Monster into the Apple monster or something. I can understand about being health consious (or however you spell it), but the Apple Monster !?!?!?!??!?!?!?! WTF

I heard a little something about this, and I think that's what it is. With the growing epidemic of childhood obesity, I guess they figured the name Cookie Monster was a bad influence on kids.

Give me a freakin' break!!

Like Doodyville stated in a thread, too much hypersenitivity in this world today.

Oh, and I don't really know when exactly Elmo came about, I think in the past 10 years. I remember a few years back "Tickle Me Elmo" was the toy to get one Christmas season.

All I know is that he's annoying!!

I know Elmo was in "Follow That Bird" in 1985. He doesn't have a speaking part, but he is one of the background monsters.

My favorite is Grover.

I don't remember exactly when he debuted but it was way after I stopped watching! I haven't seen "Follow That Bird" yet, but maybe he started out as an 'extra' and ended up being front and center. Elmo's cute, but that Elmo's World segment they have is WAY too long. I'm serious, it was over 10 minutes long! I timed it! How boring to sit and watch that for half the show! Even I was getting bored! I can understand a long segment with various characters "on" Sesame Street, but it's like "Elmo's World" is hogging the whole show!

OMG, are you serious? That's crazy! Besides I've seen Cookie Monster eat apples and such. I highly doubt that just because he craves cookies doesn't mean that every preschooler in America will now be overweight! Can you say "Parental supervision"! I can understand them wanting to show him eating more than cookies, but I can think of a hundred different ways to do it, instead of changing a classic character's name.

Andrea

PS: I'm going to make a list and reply later about my favorite characters.

I like Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster and Big Bird.

I CAN'T STAND Elmo!!!! Sesame Street has turned into "The Elmo Show".

Oscar should throw Elmo in the trash and beat the stuffing outta him, putting him (and us) out of his (our) misery.
