Question Most underrated and overrated sitcoms of all time ?

I think the subtle humour on 'Full House' alone makes it extremely underrated because everyone would always judge it based on its lame sight gags and cliched storylines. Don't get me wrong, the show is corny, but it's underestimated when it comes to getting big laughs from little jokes the writers probably thought were just throwaways.

On the other hand I think 'Frasier', 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show', 'Mad About You', 'Murphy Brown' and even 'Everybody Loves Raymond' are overrated. With the exception of the first couple of seasons, I also think this is true about 'The Cosby Show' as well.

I think that Home Improvement was rated perfect. I loved that show! I think "Sex and the city" is overated as well as "Ally mcBeal".

NewsRadio was underrated. It had some critical acclaim, but it wasn't very popular with viewers.

I think that M*A*S*H was overrated near the end of it's run.

The most underated show would have to be Saved by the Bell or Parker Lewis Can't Lose. That was a great show. 'The Facts of Life' used to be underrated, but now it's gettin' it's attention.
The most overrated show would have to be Friends, or Family Ties(even though I watch it sometimes).

It depends on what you mean by "underrated" and "overrated". I never thought of Full House as being overrated, because the show lasted for eight years, so it was obviously getting adequate Nielson Ratings and a decent amount of attention from viewing audiences. If anything, the show was overrated. The show was hardly groundbreaking and most of the scripts were coming off the xerox machine towards the end. The show was sappy, badly written, and lame. It's amazing it lasted as long as it did, especially with such a mediocre cast and their one line style of humor. I can just imagine a group of Full House writers sitting around a table, eating Chinese food, when one of them looks up from his pea pods and says, "Hey, why don't we have Michelle say 'You got it, dude!'"? Then another one of them looks up from his Koong Pow and goes, "My, God. That's gold! That's freaking hillarious. We should have her say it every episode too. The audiences will go crazy for it. You're a freaking genius!".

Another show that I think was overrated was Saved By the Bell. Just like every single Peter Engle production, the shows were just lame and for the most part, T&A driven. It was like Baywatch for the Saturday morning crowd. Everyone I've ever met who has admitted to liking this show will always add, "Wasn't Kelly hot", or "Didn't Jessie have a nice body"? Evey show revolved around some "ingenius" plan that Zach would come up with in 15 seconds, and THEY ALWAYS WORKED. Plus, I hated the way this show was hyped up as a show riddled with Family Values and good morals. In reality, the show centered around one popular group in this particular high school, and they basically labeled eveyone else as a "dumb jock" or a "geek". In other words, the rest of the people in the school simply didn't matter. Of course, they would try and save face by including Screech in this group, but he was only there to perform evey demeaning and humiliating task that Zach asked him to perform.

Shows that I consider underrated shows would be those shows that went over the heads of most of the network execs and most of its audience. Get a Life comes to mind. Most of the people that hated that show simply didn't get it.

My so-called life was so underatted... It is a brillant show that truly captured what life in high school is like and unfourtnulntly it got cancled. Ally Mcbeal is underrzated becaus of the tabliod presses obsession with calastias weight. Friends and all the other nbc shows are overrated.. as is everbody loves raymond.

Cool

I think Wings, NewsRadio, and Becker happen to be 3 of the most under-rated shows. I think Friends, Frasier, and Will & Grace are boring, predictable, and over-rated.

The most underrated shows IMHO are "The Wonder Years" and "Perfect Strangers."

The most overrated show (by far!) IMHO was "Cheers," which stole all of the limelight from the other two shows I mentioned when all three were cancelled (TWY and PS ever so prematurely!) back in 1993. Why "Cheers" lasted so long I can't understand!

The Wonder Years I would agree was cancelled prematurely.. but Perfect Strangers? 150 episodes and 8 seasons.. how much longer could it have went? It was never a top 20 show - don't get me wrong I liked it I just wouldn't call it underrated..

Most under rated show I've ever seen was ju7st recently... Normal, Ohio. John Goodman was GREAT, as well as the rest of the cast! However, if it *had* to be replaced by anything, I'm glad it was replaced by Grounded for Life. I really like the formula of that show, and it just might make top of the Under Rated list real soon here.

Over Rated? Family Maters. Okay, he's wearing suspenders and high pants... I *GET* it! Let's move on!

It was a top 20 show in my mind, top 5 at that. It just didn't get very much hype from the media IMHO (I mean, compared with "Cheers", which I thought was very OVERRATED).

I've heard people say "The Brady Bunch" never reached the Top 20, but on one special Florence Henderson (aka Carol Brady) said TBB never cracked the Top 10, which I took to mean it could very well have been ranked #11 one year.

Since neither The Brady Bunch nor Perfect Strangers had cracked the Top 20 in our estimates, I wonder why PS never got the hype TBB has. (No knock against the Bunch; I watch that show, too!)

i think that Cybill is totally underatted.. and it got the shaft two.. first of all it was a top ten show.. that was cancled prematurly... cybill is one of the best shows EVER!!! i thik caroline in the city is underated.. it may not be the best show ever.. but it was pretty decent and entertaining enough. also murphy brown was underrated because during the last few seasons, it got the shaft because everyone was watching seinfield and friends and had no time for poor, cancer sticken murphy... i was very sad that murphy's final episode wasn't hyped as much as seinfield's. she deserved the hype more than seinfield. i think sienfield was much to overrated.. as it was just a ****ty sbow.. about nothing.. and even though some may think that as ingenuis i think it just dumb, i mean hello.. a sitcom needs a plot.
