Priest Wraps Production in L.A.
Source: Scott Stewart
November 23, 2009

Less than a year away from its October 1, 2010 release, director Scott Stewart has called it a wrap on Priest, his loose adaptation of the Manga of the same name.

Stewart has been shooting this sci-fi/horror/action amalgamation in and around Los Angeles for the last few months with stars Paul Bettany, Maggi Q, Karl Urban and Christopher Plummer.

As principal photography came closer to completion, Stewart hinted at one major scene that he got in the can: "Sorry gang for the crickets. The myopia of production. Been shooting in the vampire hive," he wrote via his Twitter account.

Priest Teaser Poster Channels Pulp Cover
Source: Screen Gems
December 21, 2009

You may have seen this image before, at Screen Gems' teaser site for the film, but here is the official teaser one-sheet released today for the studio's big post-apocalyptic picture Priest.

I dig the look, like the image is ingrained on a ragged novel's cover.

And yes, the man you see, Paul Bettany, does have a giant crossed tattooed on his face - in fact, all of the Priests featured in the film do.

Scott Stewart recently wrapped production and is now in post.
The film is set for an August 20 release, a week earlier than last reported.

Just my humble opinion but even though vampires are hot right now I still think they are rather boring to watch.

2 exceptions off the top of my head are

Salems Lot (1979)
Fright Night ---which had Amanda Bearse who I thought looked great but in 2 short years she would turn into Marcy Darcy on Married with Children

One of my favorites is From Dusk Till Dawn. I also liked Salem's Lot as well as the 2004 version. Some people didn't like it but I thought it was pretty good.

One of my favorite vampire flicks from recent years is 30 Days of Night.

Scott Stewart Talks Vampires In Priest
Source: THR Heat Vision Blog
January 25, 2010

While out chatting about his debut feature Legion, director Scott Stewart dropped some details about his next movie Priest, a vampire film also starring Paul Bettany which he seems genuinely enthusiastic about.

On the story, Stewart explains, "It takes place a generation after the war, a hundreds-year war between man and vampire, and the characters of the priests are like Jedi Knights that helped turn the tide.

My focus is how now the vampire is vanquished, and society has moved on from you. You're not the hero anymore, and people look at you like a freak. They won't talk to you.

And so we look at what happens after that if you're called into service again. You end up questioning why you made those sacrifices to begin with."

In the interview, he talks about how he didn't want to do the "sexy vampire" as portrayed on HBO's hit series True Blood, nor does he want his vampires to sparkle, an obvious reference to Twilight's tweeniverse.

So what can we expect from the vampires in Priest?

"These vampires are very feral and very violent. They are not human. They don't talk English. They are not people at all, they're digital characters. We've created a whole lore about them."

Yeah, we'll see soon...

Bettany seems to be playing a lot of religious action roles; The Da Vinci Code, Legion, and now this.
