Does anyone know what this show was about? I've never seen it nor do I remember anything about it.

If I recall right it was about a group of army nurses on board a
submarine that was commanded by John Astin.It was on so
long ago that I'm not quite sure if that is correct,but I think it
is.

The show was based on the 1959 movie with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis.

Set during WW2, the show followed the misadventures of a sub crew (with some nurses and plenty of double entendres) aboard a pink colored submarine.
John Astin was the star for the first season (1977) but just about the entire cast was changed in the second season, in an attempt to keep the ratings afloat. Ha! Little pun there...

Anyway, the show was canned after two seasons.

A little trivia, a really young Jamie Lee Curtis was one of the nurses in the first season.

I have the dvd Operation Petticoat.. I never knew they made it as a show!!! The movie is hilarious though. I dont think anyone could replace Cary Grants part nor Tony Curtis's part though.

It was short-lived. Maybe only one season or so, starting in 1977.

The show lasted one low rated season with the original cast, and the second season with the new cast lasted only four episodes.

some more trivia; "Opperation Petticoat" was the first movie Tony Curtis made after his daughter-Jamie Lee Curtis-was born.

THe show was launched with a two hour pilot (rare for a sitcom) that was a near total remake of the original 1959 Cary Grant-Tony Curtis movie. John Astin had Grant's role as Commander Matt Sherman, and Richard Gilliland in the Tony Curtis role of wheeler-dealer supply officer Nick Holden. Not only did Jamie Lee Curtis appear in the show, she played the part of the nurse that her father had romanced in the original movie (played by Dina Merrill).

The show's total overhaul in its brief second season has always been one of the more puzzling things to me since you had both male leads (Astin and Gilliland) axed in favor of Robert Hogan and Randolph Mantooth (Emergency). Of the nurses, only Melinda Naud as the well-endowed Lieutenant Crandall returned from the first season, and the only crewmen from the first season who made it to year two were Jim Varney (later to gain fame as Ernest in the 1980s and 90s) as Seaman "Doom and Gloom" Broome, and Richard Brestoff as Yeoman Hunkle (the character played by Gavin MacLeod in the original movie).

Perhaps the primary cause of the series Operation Petticoat's running out of gas, is that once the movie is run, the story is told. This does not mean that a sequel or a prequel cannot be made, and good ones.

I have wracked my brain (say very little) trying to recall a series that survived from a movie: Other than M*A*S*H.
