This was partly inspired by Brad's own "friends" thread (good thread, Brad!
)Has anyone had, or does anyone currently have, any friends that other friends of theirs dislike? If so, does this ever make things awkward for you? I don't think I've ever really been friends with people that other friends of mine have ever disliked. I have different groups of friends - for example, there are some old schoolfriends that I still have, some friends that I know through another friend, and university friends. Most of my university friends have never met my schoolfriends. I've always thought it would be interesting to introduce some of them at some point, but I don't see that happening in the near future. I have been friendly with people whom other people that I was friendly with didn't really get along well with, but I wouldn't necessarily say they really disliked each other. If I was ever in the situation where some of my friends disliked each other, I think I would feel uncomfortable. I think highly of my friends and so want them all to like each other. I know sometimes people just don't like other people - sometimes for no reason at all - but I'd really want everyone I was friends with to like one another. |

I'm friends with two people that don't like each other. We were all friends in high school and the two had a falling out. They were ok with me being friends with both of them they just didn't speak to each other when they were in the same place. I'm still in contact with both and one lives out of state.

Thanks for complimenting my thread Michelle. This is a good topic as well.
In answer to your question, yes, I've had, and have friends that don't get along with each other. Most of the time it's fine, and I stay friends with both, but sometimes they'll end up wanting me to choose sides. In most cases I refuse to do this, but if one of the friends disrespects my other friend in anyway, I'll usually part ways with them. I take my friendships very seriously, and if one friend of mine intentionally hurts another, in most cases I'll have nothing to do with them anymore. Anyone unjustly disrespects one of my friends, they usually end up on my **** list. I do believe in forgiveness though, so if the person comes to me and apologizes, I'll usually accept them as friends again, but the friendship usually isn't as strong anymore. On the other hand, I also have friends who are friends with people I don't particularly care for. I never make them choose sides, and hopefully I've never put them in a situation where they felt like they had to. My friends are free to be friends with whomever they choose, and it's none of my business. I will sometimes warn friends of certain people out of care, but that's only the case if they're friends with someone who I know has a sketchy reputation. I feel in that case that it's my obligation as a friend to tell them. So anyway, that's basically my take on it. |

I have a few friends that dislike some of my other friends. But, I also have friends that are friends with someone that I dislike. It's part of life.

I used to be friends with a guy who didnt like a couple of my friends, and he gave me crap about it. For that and other reasons, me and that person are no longer threads.

Yup, both in online life and in real life.. I have friends who don't like other friends that I have. And I have friends whose friends I don't like at all.. but. like Brad was saying, I try not to make anyone choose sides, cause that's just immature, and I've unfortunately had to deal with it a few times. Otherwise, yeah, people are entitled to talk with whoever they want to.

Nope. Everyone seems to get along fine for the most part, which is just the way I like it.
