Pacific Northwest HEATWAVE!!!!!

Hope everyone in Washington, Oregon and Canada (BC) and any other states/provinces in the Pacific Northwest are coping with this awful heatwave we have going on. I complained about the heat yesterday in the complaint thread, but since I'm concerned about you guys, I thought it deserved its' own thread.

I haven't gotten more than two hours of sleep per night since Sunday night, and right now it's about 96 degrees Fahrenheit in our "computer" room. It's 1am and it says that it's 79 outside. UGH....

This morning on the bus on the way to work, I saw a time/temp sign and it was 74 at 6:30am! Usually it is freezing (even in summer) in the morning and I always have to bring a jacket, but definitely not this week!

Seattle hit an ALL-TIME high of 103, but the weird thing is that it didn't really bother me at all. Mostly what bothers me is like right now, when it's so hot that my house feels like a sauna and I cannot sleep at all. The daytime doesn't bother me. I went outside about 3pm, like a crazy person, just because I didn't believe that it could really get up to 100 in Seattle. I didn't stay outside very long (I was on a ten minute break), but it really didn't feel that hot.

Then this afternoon, when we got home, I was on the bus and passed the same time/temp sign. I expected it to read 99, but it really said 107!!! I about died when I saw that. The weird thing is that when I was walking to the car, I was sure that the temp gage was wrong because it didn't feel nearly 107 degrees! I NEVER dreamed in a million years it would get even close to 100 in the Seattle area. I was in Texas about two weeks ago and it was 105 there. I was telling someone that people in Seattle would die if it got up to 100, but fortunately I think people coped rather well. The previous record was 100 back in 1994, I think. I've been here 13 years and I seriously don't ever remember it getting above 95 once in Seattle. I do remember being in Salem, Oregon and it being 93, but not in Seattle.

I never thought I'd be wishing for the rain and cooler weather, but I'm praying that the forecasters are right and that it will be back in the low 80's-high 70's next week! My husband and I have decided to invest in A/C or at least in a heating/cooling pump. I told him that even if it cools down here by the time we get it installed, it will be worth it next summer, even if we only use it a couple of times!

A nice cool swimming pool (or more realistically, a cold shower) sounds REALLY good right now!!!!

I've been drinking water like crazy, and I never drink that much, although I should.

One good thing is that I've been working out more. My goal is to go five times a week, even though Curves recommends three times. I need to make up for all the times I slacked off and didn't go at all! But the heat seems to help in a weird way. Maybe it's making me

Actually I don't mind the heat, really. I suffered through it living in Dallas for so long, but we did have A/C there.

Funny story... when we were there last, we were driving down the freeway and I saw this sign that says in big letters:

YOUR WIFE IS HOT

and in little letters below:

Get the air conditioning fixed

OMG, I wish I would have taken a picture!!!


Anyway, hope you all are doing well, and by next week, hopefully things will be back to normal. But who knows, this might happen again, so I won't hold my breath! Tomorrow (Thurs) is supposed to be another 100 degree day. I guess it would be kind of cool if we hit another record. Pun intended!!!

Oh my gosh Andrea, I'm from Portland Oregon, and this heat has absolutely been killing me. I know that people who live in hot climates usually make fun of us when we complain about the heat, but what they don't realize is that we usually don't get this type of weather, and so for us, it's a total shock to the system. Imagine if these warm areas suddenly had to deal with below freezing weather, you know they'd be screaming too, because it's something they're not use to. I'm actually nauseus right now, and have a horrible heat headache. It also got up to 107 here in Portland today, and I like you wasn't really bothered by it much throughout the day, but these last few nights have been horrible!!!! I don't know how much longer this heatwave is going to last, but I sure hope it ends soon!!! Bring on the mid 70's, and 80's, and I'm just fine, but this triple digit crap is just too damn much for me.

103 in Sandy Oregon(where I live) yesterday(July 30th), and 106 in Portland, OR(where I work).
I am so glad my wife and I bought my parent's RV trailer when they upgraded. It has air-conditioning so we've been staying in it since Tuesday(just come into the main house for bathroom breaks, make meals, showers, etc)
At least we're getting use out of it since we haven't gotten to actually use it for camping yet.
Though I think we're going to have a hard time getting our daughter to move back into the main house because she thinks it's great staying out there.

My niece who lives in California is laughing at us because they're getting even hotter temperatures and we're making such a big deal out of 103

Yeah it's interesting how people from warm parts of the Country laugh at us because we're not use to this heat, yet when it's 45 degrees there, they're talking about how freezing cold it is. I remember my Aunt writing me this big long email about the cold spell in Arizona. It was a frigid 48 degrees, ooooooh, and she was under every blanket in her house. Meanwhile it was 22 degrees that night here in Oregon, and I'm on the computer in my tshirt and shorts. Ha ha ha!! People are just funny when they laugh at us, yet when the shoe is on the other foot, they react the exact same way. I've always been amused by that.

Call me weird but I'm lovin this weather! I hate the rain, gray skies and the cold, so I'm in heaven right now. We don't have AC at my house but we have plenty of fans. I'm taking full advantage of this- laying out in the sun, bbqing, going to the beach and all that! We have AC at work so it's perfect. I love on my days off just laying around being lazy in the sun shine.

Yesterday here in Abbotsford we recorded the highest temperature ever since they started keeping records. It was 38 degrees celcius (Approx. 105 farenheit).

This summer Alaska ,Kenai got up high 80's to low 90's for 3 to 4 weeks and we here used to live in igloo's because the heat was not that bad..loljk, anyways it's a cool 58 degree's now, but mabe we will get your weather again. Take care drink water.

Do you live in (or around) Seattle? I always think it's interesting to find people who live around here. I was PRAYING that it would be cooler tonight, since they said that last night would be the last of the miserable nights (damn weatherman.... ). I agree that A/C would be nice, which is why I'm calling about it either later tonight or tomorrow. I know there's not a chance in Hell of getting it right now, but it will be worth it come next summer.

However, today it was a lot cooler (90s) than yesterday, and I actually found myself wishing it was 100 again! Wow, I must be delusional, huh? The perfect thing would be for it to be really hot during the day and cool at night (like 50... ahhhh...), but unfortunately, the heat stays even at night.

Well, so much for getting some sleep tonight. I cannot wait till next week, because the high is only supposed to be 77!! Whoo hoo! Never thought I'd be cheering about that!!!

BTW, I mentioned this before but in today's Seattle Times, it said that the high temperature on July 29, 2008 was only 64!! Actually I remember that now. Last summer was crap, because we barely had two weeks of kind of warm weather (70's-80's) before the rain and cold started again!

Boy I wish I would have thought to go to Astoria (OR) today, because they only reached 71.

Actually, the weather was perfect around 7 tonight. I went to workout and when I got out of the car, there was a breeze, but it wasn't too warm and it didn't leave you freezing.

Speaking of freezing, it was kind of ironic that my office decided to crank up the A/C today instead of yesterday. I was freezing! However, I didn't dare complain because I'd give anything for that now!!! And coming home on the bus was even worse. I had on a short sleeved t-shirt and shorts and the A/C was going full blast!

Yesterday, even though it didn't really feel like it was 107, I did actually burn my hand when I got into the car and tried to touch the steering wheel! The last time that happened was two weeks ago, when I was in Dallas, but there it pretty much happens all the time. Word of advice... crack the windows, even a little tiny bit. It works wonders!

It's been cool here anywhere from the mid 70's to 80's. I was surprised to hear about the heatwaves in Portland and Seattle.

I live in Federal Way, between Seattle and Tacoma, but I work in Seattle. It was really HOT on Tuesday, wow, 103%!! I left work at 1:30 that afternoon and the heat was intense! Felt like the inside of an oven.

Here in Tennessee we've been having cooler than normal temperatures with lower humidity & more rain which is pretty unusual.
