Do you feel like some people aren't meant to live long?

Like you can't picture them living to an old age? I don't know what's got me thinking about this, probably all the recent deaths. But it's a weird thing with me. Like Michael Jackson, I feel that he was supposed to live longer to an old age, and still be able to perform like Mick Jagger. Don't ask me why I just get that feeling.

And yet oddly enough people that I actually knew I get the opposite. My friend Justin passed away last year and he was only 18 years old. Although I prefer that him dying didn't happen, I can't picture him being old and having a family and all of that. Probably because he was so flighty and unhappy here on Earth, and he really didn't know what he wanted.

This is a great question Pretender. Sometimes as I go on with my life I get surprised at the people who die young like Michael Jackson etc. I thought he would outlive me. That's what gets to me about his death.

Friends I had who died before me... I get astounded they're gone. I have friends who died of Aids who I would never imagine them dying because they were so cautious. They died because their partners infected them.

I even knew a young child who died at 8 years old. He drowned. I'm surprised I outlived him.

I have a feeling that a young lady in my job will not live a long life. I would be surprised if she outlives me the way she's going.

I forgot to mention that I believe Lindsay Lohan is one of these people. (I just get this feeling she'll die young).

I had a cousin who killed himself when he was two months shy of his 17th birthday (I was 19 at the time, this was back in late 2004, so I had already outlived him). I knew he suffered from depression... other people in my family suffer from it as well. He was on meds, though. I guess it just wasn't working. I really thought he'd live to graduate from high school... he was in the same grade as another cousin on the same side of that family, so it would've been a big graduation party for them back in 2007.

I mentioned this before in another thread... I had another cousin who died suddenly when she was 30. The 10-year anniversary of her passing is approaching in September, and I hate knowing that. I really thought she would live a long time... She was in her 2nd marriage (first marriage was to a total ******* guy that only lasted about a year or so, when she was only 20) and had had two children with her husband. When she died, her youngest was only 9 months old. It bums me out knowing the baby (now 10 years old) won't ever remember her mom... what a great person and mom she was.

I turn 24 in three weeks... it freaks me out knowing I'll outlive her. Not until 2015, though.

Here's another one... John Ritter. THAT took everybody by surprise. He'd already lived for a while, but ya know. He could've done so much more. :/

It does seem like some people are not meant to live long, esecially those who contributed greatly to Rock N Roll. People like Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Patsy Cline and a whole sorts of others. It really trips me out sometimes.

I have a friend who died last year from cancer...she was one week short of her 33rd birthday. Her whole adult life all she ever wanted was to be a mom. She and her husband tried for 7 years and underwent more fetility treatments than I could ever imagine. Finally they decided adoption would be the best route for them. She quit her teaching job and started to pursue adoption. Finally they were able to adopt a baby girl from China. Two weeks after they came home with their little girl, my friend was diagnosed with cancer. She had some ups and downs with the cancer treatments, but was still the most amazing mother. She loved that baby more than anything. When she finally accepted that she was not going to make it, one thing she said was at least she got to be a mom.

Her little girl is happy and healthy and has the most loving daddy in the world. But it makes me sad that my friend wasn't meant to be on this earth long enough to watch her daughter grow up. She was so young and had so much life left to live.

I sort of feel that some people aren't meant to live long too. Like comedyfreak mentioned it does freak me out that a lot of musicians die young. I find Jeff Buckley's death heartbreaking because he died young before his music really went big. It breaks my heart when a lot of really good people die young.
But I'm also grateful for the very good people who live long lifes like Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur.

I don't know...I only know there are some people who are living on time they shouldn't have. That time should be given to someone more deserving. But those kind of people live to be 120.

I think I believe that there are people that aren't meant to live long. I remember hearing a story a few years back about a conversation that Billy Crystal had with Andre The Giant, and I don't remember the whole conversation, but I do remember Andre saying to Billy: how many old Giant's do you know?? When I thought about that, I realized that most giants do have shorter lives typically. I've thought ever since I was a teen that I wasn't going to be long for this world. There are several reason why I believe this, that I won't get into, but I seriously doubt I'll ever be an old 70 year old man sitting on my porch drinking orange juice each morning. I hope I'm wrong, it's just this strong feeling I've always had.

Hmm. Well, can't think of a person who lives now who will die young, but when you think of for example Elvis Presley, it's hard to think that he would get old.
