The Ropers and Brookes were next door neighbors. Stanley and Helen lived in apartment #40. While, Jeffrey and Anne lived in apartment #48. That would have meant that they lived 8 apartments away from eachother, instead of them being neighbors.

I was looking over some episodes, and the Ropers don't live in 40 Peacock Drive. They live in 46 Peacock Drive, which probably means that 47 Peacock Drive is across the street.
