Question Do You Speak Up Or Keep Quiet?

When you're in a grocery store or just a store in general do you speak up if there's a problem or do you keep quiet?

My mother is rather outspoken. We had a situation in the grocery store today. She got really upset. She told the cashier to get the manager. After the cashier refused to listen my mother started counting down from ten out loud. I knew if she got to 1 it wouldn't be pretty.

If it was something minor, I would keep quiet. However, if there was a problem or if I was being treated rudely for no reason, I would definitely say something and I have. There was also a situation where a cashier was being treated horribly by a customer, and I couldn't help but speak up. Normally I'd stay out of it, but retail workers don't deserve to be treated like they are beneath anyone.

Being a grocery store clerk myself, I never try to cause any problems and am super polite to the fellow clerks. Unless it's something that's over 10 dollars, then I'll just mention something to them.

I'm usually one to keep quiet, but if the situation called for me to speak up, I would.

I speak up, but I don't make a scene. If the clerk is uncooperative, then I ask to speak with the manager. I'll then explain the situation. It rarely gets that far, as most workers, in person or on the phone, will take you more seriously if you ask to speak with their boss. They don't want that, so they usually change their attitude.

I tend to stay quiet - even if the problem was quite big, I might be too shy or nervous to complain.

It might depend on what kind of mood I was in - although I am by nature quiet in these sorts of situations, I sometimes feel tired of letting things happen without speaking up. So if it was a big enough problem that merited me speaking up, I might surprise myself and say something.

keep quiet. even if it was a major problem, hell, i'd still keep it at minimum volume and confidence. only if someone started personally violating me would i come out of my shell at all.

The owner of the factory where I work said he gave the best raises. He gave Junky raises but I kept quiet. I dont have any support system so I kept my mouth shut.

Me too. I've never asked to see a manager or anything like that. I speak up when a cashier rings an item twice, but they usually just just go Oops, and fix it. No biggie.

I don't have any desire to make a scene.

I speak up. I have worked in customer service and it bugs me when customers are flat out rude to cashiers. I have to say something. And if there's ever an issue with a price or anything, I'll say what I saw the price as in the store. I never make a scene, but I'm not one to bite my tongue.

Although I wish I were more assertive, I'm definitely on the quiet side. If there's a problem, I might mention it to the employee, but more likely than not, I end up writing a letter or speaking to the manager in person. It works wonders and I don't cause a scene.

As a cashier I can say that I am much more willing to go the extra mile to help out a customer who's being polite than one who's rude. Our managers are good at standing up for us, which is nice.

Yeah, I don't see why people think they'll always get their way if they're nasty. You can catch more flies with honey so to speak.

I can be very outspoken when necessary, especially if someone working at the store sounds phony to me.
