Question Cover Letter

What specifically do you put in the content of a good cover letter for a job? Do you talk about your character traits more, or do you lean more towards highlighting references and experience?

The cover letter I'm writing is for a job of assisting a student with autism. Any guidelines out there to help me get started?

You do talk about your character traits and sometimes it's good to give brief history of previous employment and education.

I would reccomend going to the library and looking at books about cover letters. Look over the examples they give and go from there.

I agree. Go to the library or look it up on the internet. There are some good sources that can help you.

I do not think your cover letter should go into too much detail about past work experience. That is what your resume is for. An employer does not want to read a long cover letter. I would just give a brief introduction of yourself, state your interest in the job and thank the employer for taking the time to look at your resume. Then end with something like "I look forward to meeting with you soon." It really shouldn't be more than a couple of paragraphs.

Good luck with your job search! I am a teacher and work with children with autism as well. I am sure you would love that job. I know I do!

Your cover letter is basically a summary of your resume, and why you want the job that you are applying for. Don't make it to long, three paragraphs should be enough. I'm sure there are a lot of examples that you can find online.
