Default Laundry Question

Whenever I put my white t shirts into the washer, they come out pink. Am I using too much soap? Too much bleach? Anybody have this problem as well? It's plain white t shirts and undershirts that are white. Thanks.

If you put whites in with colors, that will do it. Happened to my basketball shorts.

Has it happened more than once? A few years back I watched some white clothes and somehow a red hard candy fell into the washer it turned some of my clothes a pinkish color.

I've never had that happen and I wash my whites with my towel, washcloths, and light colored underwear.

How are you washing them?

A few things to keep in mind.

- Cotton and wool shrink (but cotton will stretch out again), so wash these things in cold water, not hot water.

- I don't know of any red-tinted laundry soap, so your whites shouldn't even be turning pink.

- Do not, I repeat, DO NOT overstuff the washing machine!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been doing my laundry for a decade now, and my mom still has to scold me for this sometimes. (I moved back in with her last winter) If you have a heaping pile of one set of colors, divide that up into two loads or even three. That way, the washing machine has room to cycle the soap and whatever else you put in it. If you have enough for a medium-sized load, I would advise pressing the water button for a large load.

- OxyClean works just as well as bleach with brightening clothes, so I would give it a shot if you've never used OxyClean.

- And the obvious: Reds and whites do NOT go together in hot water.

I hope that is of some help!

Maybe it's the machine. Perhaps the inside has some red fibers or something stuck in it? Assuming you're not mixing your whites with red clothes.

This thread just made me think of that Simpsons episode with Michael jackson for some reason I think I'm a little too addicted to The Simpsons.

Not sure if this is any help, but it's worth a try.

Oh wow. I didn't think of hard water! When I learned to do laundry, I was still living in a town that had hard water. Not the case here anymore. I don't remember if my whites ever got tinted pink. But I do remember we would regularly put Calgon water softener in with our loads, so that the water wouldn't be so brutal on our clothes. I moved away from there 6 years ago as of September.

My clothes still fade when I do laundry now, but not quite as severely as it did with non-Calgonized laundry where I lived when I started doing laundry.

(I was confused for the longest time when I first heard "Calgon, take me away!" - I didn't know they also sold bath products until a few years ago. The More You Know. )

Yeah that's the problem

I don't understand what anybody means with all the laundry vocab lol. Like I just throw my load into the wash, put the size of the load in, usually large or extra large, then press start and it runs.

I guess you gotta set the water temperature on their and throw the white shirts turned pink back in?

cause I don't know what fabric softener is lol. If I look dumb as far as wash goes, oh well, I'm still young .

Btw, thanks for the help everybody. Now if I can just get the pink shirts back to white, I'll be good

Cause I was mixing whites in with colors here and their, but I learned from it...

Thumbs up

Before buying Laundry detergent make sure you read the small print. Does it contain bleach?

Some detergents now contain bleach and the bottle looks like it doesn't have it. One time I bought a bottle and it had bleach in it.

This is what I do.........

White or light beige together

Colors....... red, light blue and yellows etc.

Darks..... like Navy, black and brown

Gentle..... Like baby clothes, fine fabrics like blouses, soft dresses etc. (Plus these clothers (fine fabrics) don't go in the dryer.

I'm sorry Kyle - but TYPICAL guy doing the laundry and putting everything in together! Didn't you watch the Friends episode when Rachel was doing laundry for the first time and put her undies in with red socks and everything came out "Pepto Bismol pink"!?

Whites HAVE to be kept separate and should be washed in hot or warm water. Colours are washed together in cold water.

Sometimes fabric softeners can stain clothes (I've had them stained from pink to blue to yellow).

Try washing the tinted whites (only) again in hot water with a cup or two of bleach mixed in. Make sure the bleach goes into the water BEFORE the clothes.

Good luck!

I hate to admit this, but that ad played for sooooo long and sooooo often that I still have the entire script down pat!

Customer: How do you get shirts so clean Mr. Lee?

Mr. Lee: Ancient Chinese secret!

Mrs. Lee: My husband, some hotshot! Here's his ancient Chinese secret - Calgon! Calgon's two water softeners help detergents clean better. In hardest water, Calgon gets clothes up to 20% cleaner!

Mrs. Lee shouting out to Mr. Lee: We need more Calgon!

Customer: Ancient Chinese secret huuuuh?!

I know - I need a life! :P

Lol I know they get separated into different piles And no I've never seen that episode, I don't watch Friends but that's hilarious We use warm water for both loads. I heard you have to use warm water for colored laundry too? That way it completely kills germs off of the clothes.

Oh and I used to put the bleach in last . We have like a little corner above the cylinder where the clothes go, where the bleach goes in, but ok thanks.
