Question Question for any classic American car lovers...

How much should I pay for a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme soft top?

I'm planning on buying one that runs, then painting it. I've found some on craiglist in the 1,500-3,800 range and I thought that was good deal for a classic muscle car, but my mom said that was way too much for a car that old.

First, for the record, this is probably what the car looks like for those that haven't seen it:

In most cases, a car that old would never go for 3-4K. This car is a classic, so after buying the car and painting it, it probably would cost around $3,500-4,000. I myself was looking at a 1979 Corvette, and even that was going for 10K. Here is the car I was looking at:

The only problem I would have is getting in(I'm 6'2").

If the body is solid, then that is a good deal. If it was a 442 you would probably pay double for it. I'm looking to buy a muscle car in the next few months, most likely a chevelle or roadrunner.. The prices for MCs have skyrocketed. Good luck in your search!

Dayum, that Corvette looks niiiice.

Ramona, I know nothing about prices, but I wish you luck. I hope you find one you like and that you can get it fixed up. That must be exciting.

Okay I thought that was a good deal. I love classic GM's. In my opinion, when fixed up and running smoothly, they're the best lookin things on the road.

One of those should be fun to drive!

According to Old Cars Price Guide, here is the value of that car.
#1 means mint condition and #6 means needs complete restoration or is a parts car.

1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible

#1... $24,000
#2... $16,800
#3... $10,800
#4... $4,800
#5... $2,880
#6... $960

However, sometimes those estimates are on the high side. I have seen the acutal selling price for that car and similar ones quite a bit lower than the quotes above. For instance, a #3 car selling for more like $6,000 or $7,000 instead of $10,800.
