Default Just Bought Season One!

We had to make a quick run to the store (the local Wal Mart) for a couple of things, and while there I thought I'd just take a peak at the DVDs. Sure enough there was Season One of the Lucy Show. I went ahead and bought it - $29.99 - but have not opened it yet. I may not get the chance to watch it until later this week, but I do have it now.

The front has one of those cardboard slip covers over the actual plastic case. The cover looks great. I noticed that Tom Watson is the producer of the set, so no wonder from what I have heard about the set (commercials, bloopers, behind the scene info, etc.) seems to match that of the ILL releases.

In addition to Tom, the other names you see credited on the packaging, as well as those who are doing the Here's Lucy DVDs, are all big Lucy fans, so they're very dedicated and want to see these done right. The results show.

Yes, the results do show. I watched the interview with Lucie Arnaz, very enjoyable (especially her recollections of Vivian Vance and her father). Now we have just a month until the next major release!

I'm trying to avoid any spoilers here, but (if you can avoid spoilers as well) did you laugh out loud as I did when Lucie listed the names of her mother's shows?

I just bought my copy at Best Buy and I must say I was very surprised to see they only carried 1 copy. The store had just opened and that's all they had. Judging from sales of "I Love Lucy", I think they misjudged sales of "The Lucy Show". Needless to say, I grabbed it. And it truly is a beautiful set! Amazing work was done to put this together. I just hope it's not too long before we see Season 2.

Yes, and I laughed quite a bit through the entire interview! Lucie Arnaz is a very talented and enjoyable person. (After watching the interview I told my wife that I need to dig out the picture of her and I from Jamestown a few years ago!)

Yes, you must do that. I have a picture with her from about 10 years ago. I found Lucie very charming in person. I always enjoy seeing her interviewed. She always has something interesting to say. Jimmy had an interesting interview as well. I'm enjoying watching the episodes with this "vintage" feature in the set-up. It's cool to see the original openings and closings with sponsor logos, and the cast commercials.

This first season was good from the start, but beginning at about the seventh episode ("Kangaroo"), it really gets going with a string of hilarious episodes. One thing I was wondering about, in the first handful of episodes, she has an older appearance, at least to me. But in the "astronaut" episode, she suddenly has a new hairstyle/wig, and also seems to look younger with firmer skin (looking more like Lucy Ricardo). Is this just my impression, or does anyone else see that? I was wondering if this is the point where she began doing the skullcap/bandage routine.

The first few episodes has Lucy wearing her own hair, then she started using the wigs more regularly--this allowed Lucy in her real life to grow her own hair longer but keep Lucy Carmichael with her own look. I always preferred Lucy with longer hair. In the California era, she wears a longer wig for a few episodes and the look was really flattering. Too bad she didn't stick with it.

I notice the new wig in the astronaut episode. I also notice her skin looking firmer. Do you know whether this is when she started doing the bandage procedure?

Default SUPERB

What a great dvd set. CBS outdid themselves on this.
Lots of amazing bonus features (love the LUCY promo for
FAIR EXCHANGE, a short-lived DESILU sitcom. However, the
most impressive thing is that each episode can be viewed (if
set up prior to viewing) in the VINTAGE mode, meaning the original
open, sponsor bumps, cast commercial and closing credits are
intact. I've never seen anything quite like this before.
A job extremely well done.

i'm sure it is.....I have "The Lucy Book" which is EXCELLENT! and the author details almost every minute detail, including when she wore wigs, etc.

Another thing I like with the extras is they continue with flubs, guest star biographies and production notes, set up just like on the I Love Lucy sets.

I noticed the same thing. Would like to know if anyone knows if that is when she started using the adhesive lifts.
