Thumbs up 80s Horror Flick "Happy Birthday To Me" Coming To DVD Oct. 2009

Happy Birthday to Me Coming to DVD This October!
Saturday, July 18, 2009
By: MrDisgusting

One of my favorite 80's horror movie is getting re-relased with its original score newly restored for the first time on DVD.

Mark your calendars for October 13 as Anchor Bay will be releasing J. Lee Thompson's Happy Birthday to Me.

You'll find the sales sheet below, which appears to have no word on a Blu-ray release (now that would be a bummer). More details when announced.

Virginia is proud that she belongs to a clique; the best students at a private school. But before her 18th birthday, a grueling set of murders take place and her friends are the ones who are falling prey. Could it be her? She suffers from blackouts due to a freak accident one year earlier. We soon learn the truth behind her accident and what is going on...

I haven't seen this movie in a few years. It's cool that's on DVD.

I first saw the movie at a friend's house when I was 13 and rented it a few times over the years.

Finally! The score on the previous DVD release was horrendous.

I got to see it on the big screen when it was released.

I have a copy that I recorded off of the Mystery Channel years ago. I almost recorded over it when the first DVD release came out, but when I heard the new score, I'm glad I didn't....now I can finally get rid of the tape.

Full Specs and Art for Happy Birthday to Me DVD
Monday, July 27, 2009
By: MrDisgusting

It’s time to blow out the candles and sharpen the shish-kebab spears, because the classic 1980s’ slasher favorite Happy Birthday to Me (one of my personal favorite movies) is coming to DVD, courtesy Anchor Bay Entertainment. We've got the official announcement and DVD Cover art for the film which streets on October 13.

This edition of the film, however, has something that the previous DVD release doesn't – the film’s haunting orchestral score, as composed by Bo Harwood and Lance Rubin, which was NOT included on the first DVD release and which fans have been clamoring for.
It is yet another example of why Anchor Bay Entertainment is the undisputed leader in cult and classic horror home entertainment – they give the fans what they want.

Happy Birthday to Me was directed by Academy Award® nominee J. Lee Thompson (The Guns of Navarone, 10 to Midnight, Murphy’s Law) and stars Emmy Award® nominee Melissa Sue Anderson (“Little House on the Prairie,” “Midnight Offerings”) and Golden Globe Award® winner and Hollywood legend Glenn Ford (3:10 to Yuma, Blackboard Jungle, The Big Heat, Superman), along with such familiar co-stars as Lawrence Dane (Scanners, Of Unknown Origin, Bride of Chucky), Daytime Emmy Award® winner Tracy Bregman (“The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Young and the Restless”) and Matt Craven (Public Enemies, Crimson Tide, Jacob’s Ladder).

Welcome to upscale Crawford Academy, where everybody – particularly new student Ginny Wainwright (Anderson) – wants to be a part of the school’s most popular clique. But now, it seems that they’re dying to get out, as a killer has been butchering the group’s members, one by one. Could a deadly accident from Ginny’s past be connected to the brutal killings? And as her 18th birthday approaches, will Ginny be the guest of honor at the most horrific party of all?

Part whodunit, part psychological thriller, part twisted black comedy and full-tilt, full-blooded shocker, the original theatrical ads for Happy Birthday to Me boasted “six of the most bizarre murders you will ever see!” -- and it delivered.
