Default Are Nightmares Real?

I had a real bad, crazy one last night, but doctors and people that study the brain etc. say that most of the time when you have a dream, it is based off something that has happened, will happen or should happen in your life. The dream could also be a combination of many things in your life. What about nightmares? Ex. If a person has a dream that somebody is dying, it is based off of something real because we all die someday, but it is looked at as a tragedy if somebody leaves early obviously. My point is, dreams are (usually) based on real things in your life, that's why doctors say when you wake up or in the middle of the night when you wake up, to write down the dreams, as many down as possible and try to connect them. What do you think about nightmares though? This could be things you know and opinions.

I think dreams can mix of anything that effects your life.

My friend had a really bad nightmare last year. He went to small college in small town. He became friends with a couple that was engaged to be married. The couple lived off campus in a rental home. In late December 2007 the couple was shot to death in their home and the case hasn't been solved. The murders really shook up my friend and a lot of people at the college.

About three months later my friend had a nightmare about another friend. In his dream his friend who is a girl was at bar and picked up by a creepy guy. The guy stabbed her death in the dream and put her body in dumpster. My friend said that when the dumpster lid close he woke up and was sweating and shaking. He sent her text to see if she would respond just to make sure she was ok. She responded an hour later. He never told her about the dream and he thinks the death of his other friends sort of effected him mentally that he had a dream about person being murdered.

A few months ago my mom was doing a will and the dream I had must have had something to do will or members of the family.

I dreamed that I was trying to find my dad and then my half siblings but I couldn't find them. I can't remember anything else other than that.

I think dreams can be real, it is more of a coincidence as well, especially if you think about something a lot in life. I actually had two dreams came true in my experience. One dream was was I was in 2nd grade, I dreamed my teacher started crying in front of the class, a few weeks later, she did in real life. She cried because a male student in the class mom had passed away, and she was crying for the boy. The other dream was that one of our popular local news reporters here left and went to a rival station. About a year later, he did just that. LOL

I think nightmares are just things we fear in real life being blown out of proportion... I know I've had nightmares about my phobias being worse than ever, and really coming to life. So in that sense, yeah nightmares are real.

I tend to agree. I've had nightmares of messing up at work, being assaulted, etc.

About two days before my friend died, I had a dream about him. He was in my English class and he had green spiky hair. The dream was odd to me too because he had dropped out of school close to his death. I still don't know what it truely means.

Nightmares can also be about things in our past that we haven't come to terms with yet. Or they can be about feelings and fears that we have that in our waking hours we haven't begin to deal with or even to totally understand yet.

Dream experts say that things we experience in certain dreams represent or symbolize something else entirely. Sometimes we have a dream about flying, something feeling good in a dream, which may mean escape or departure from a difficult situation in real life.

There seem to be all these other recurring things in dreams:

Dreams about losing your teeth;

Dreams about being naked or in your underwear, pajamas, or under-dressed in
a public place;

Dreams where you try to talk and you find you can't;

Dreams where you feel you or someone you know is dying, etc.

A few years ago, I kept having dreams where I was still living at home and my mother (who has since passed on) would come back home from work and tell me I had to get rid of my kitties, because we were moving and I couldn't take them with us. I was so upset and devastated in my dream, crying and everything. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with things being reversed: My mother dying, and not seeing her again, and having my kitties, whom I got in the same week she died.

Whoa, that's spooky! I'm sorry to hear about your friend.
I had a weird occurance like that too... one night I had a dream that this friend of mine who was a soldier, was deployed and had to leave our college. And the very next day in the cafeteria, he told me he was leaving school and had to go to Afghanistan... I was absolutely stunned, and told him about my dream. He even thought is was weird. I miss that guy. He used to call me "Crazy Mattie"

I hear ya, Mike... I just had one recently, it was about my unreasonable fears, so, no need to go into details here.

"Crazy Mattie"

I hope that your friend has a safe tour of duty in Afghanistam.

Yup, he's a great guy. We used to have lunch together everyday. We were in Sign Language class together, so we had two languages we could argue in.

That's sweet that you and he had lunch together everyday. A sign language class sounds really interesting. I've been interested in sign language for a while. I think the entire concept of communicating without using speech is really interesting.
