Default John And Joyce Brief Falling-Out

Did anyone know that John Ritter and Joyce Dewitt had a Brief falling-Out toward the end of the Series? Appearently Joyce was mad at John for lying to her and not telling her about the Spin-off when she asked him if him and the Producers were up to something early in the 8th season. She couldn't believe that after the friendship they shared for 7 years, that he would be keeping the secret about the spinoff from her. Eventually they made up and were the best of friends.

The Producers told John to keep it quiet from her and he did. She did have a right to be mad . I don't understand why they needed the secrecy. It all came out very early in the 8th season. I heard about the spin-off in October 1983 I believe.

I have no idea Aaron. Maybe they thought if it all came out it could cause the show not to happen. It doesn't make much sense. It came out soon after anyway.

I think she was upset because she was a major star on Three's Company and nobody told her the show would be ending. TC had finished the previous season ranked #6 in the country so it probably took her by surprise.

well The Producers asked John not to say anything to Joyce so Joyce should be mad at The Producers.

The Producers were trying to get John to do the spinoff since the begining of show Third Season, at the time Norman, Audra And Suzanne were still on the show. Who's know what made John give in.

Joyce was just as much Three's Company as John was and was just as Important as John, She was there from the begining. Therefore she deserved to know what was going on. She was mad at the Produucers also, she was a Leading character just like John, so therefore deserve to know everything that was going on.

I thonk Joyce was mad becuse John was one of here closet and dearest friend and that fact that he told here that nothing was going on when there was something on, made her bitter toward him. and also because she did not know it was ending.

Also, John told Richard Kline what the producers were doing before Joyce even knew abut the spinoff, that probably made her a little upset

I don't think there was a spin-off talk for John in the 3rd season. Three's Company was at it's height then and John was Three's Company. I remember reading at the time John saying that they were running out of ideas by the time the 8th season started so they needed to try something different. Ratings for TC really dropped during the 8th season too. The whole ABC Tuesday lineup was collapsing at that time because of the A-Team on NBC. That's what killed Three's A Crowd more than anything. TAC still finished in the mid 30's though. Today that would be considered a hit.

I think they wanted Richard to be on the show too. He turned it down because he had a pilot he was making for CBS which ended up not being picked up. He did agree to make guest appearances though although he just made that one before it was canceled.

During the third season, the character of Jack was at a completely different place in life. A spin-off like that one that eventually developed would have been very hard to swallow at that stage in the game! He never even had enough money for his share of the rent on the apartment that he had much less what he would need to take a place with a significant other! Dose anyone know what the third-season spin-off was going to be about?

I don't think there was ever going to be a spin-off with Jack during the 3rd season. He was Three's Company. If they would have spun him off, they would have had to fire the rest of the cast and end the show. The spin-off they wanted was for the Ropers and they got it. Unfortunately it was not successful.
