One expensive smoke: $23,148,855,308,184,500, plus fee

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- Josh Muszynski swiped his debit card at a gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes. His bank account showed he spent $23,148,855,308,184,500.

He checked his account online a few hours later, expecting to see a couple hundred dollars -- but the 17-digit number that rivals even the national debt confronted him.

Muszynski called Bank of America about the string of numbers and a $15 overdraft fee the bank tacked on to his mysterious debt. After two hours on the phone, Muszynski said, the representative on the line had no idea what to say, WMUR-TV reported.

The bank corrected his statement the next day.

Bank of America told WMUR the card issuer, Visa, could only answer questions. Visa, in turn, referred questions to the bank.

Good thing for Josh that he didn't drop dead of a heart attack. I think I would have if I bought a pack of cigs and that number came up.

Way back when I worked as a cashier, I once accidentally charged a person about $749 for an order that should only have been $7.49. Mistakes like that do happen and I was able to fix it quickly, but I don't know how that number could have come up.
