You approach someone in a joyful way and they respond with a
"I'm not in a talking mood" This girl did this to me today and I stopped talking to everybody because I was so mad and felt so stupid when I walked away. That's exactly why I never liked being a people person-lol But my communication with her is now OVER, I have nothing else to say because that was very rude. Especially after we were just joking around 2 hours before that. |

That's happened to me quite a few times at my job. I don't understand how someone can be rude to a person whom they have to face every day.I know everyone has their bad moods, but there's no need to take it out on someone else.

I think because I was approaching her in a playful way, it was why she took it out on me. Not that it made it ok but I do know if I was mad about something I would not want anyone joking around. But she didn't look upset which is why I was so shocked. |

That is really rude. I wouldn't talk to her anymore if I were you.

I've had that happen to me as well. I just stay away from those kind of people and mingle with the friendly people.

And 2 hours later she is joking around again and my look and body language made it clear to stay away from me. |

I would have said okay and walked away, unless you know the person really well then you can tease her about the way she acted.

If you were by yourself when that happened, maybe she didn't want other people to know that she might like you or something.

From now on, unless it's something work related, I only speak when spoken to. No more going out of my way to socialize with anyone at the job. I don't want to have that STUPID feeling again |

Yeah, I've had it happen with several people over the years. There have been a couple of colleagues of mine that I've just learned to stay away from first thing in the morning. I figure it's their problem, not mine. Usually after they've had their coffee and we're into the day they're ok. I'm not that way and it's hard for me to understand why some people are that way. I mean, I don't bombard people with greetings early in the morning, but I do acknowledge them and at least smile. I know what you mean, though and I know the feeling.
Also, I'm originally from the East Coast, and in New York when you say, 'How ya doin'' it's more like just a greeting and not necessarily an inquiry. Many people here in California still take that question literally, feeling like it's an intrusion and they're compelled to respond. It doesn't require an elaborate answer. Most of my friends are used to it though, and just respond in kind, after all he (Gene's) from Noo Yawk These California friends of mine will mimic the New York accent, trying to sound like Joey from Friends. It's really kind of cute!Yeah, just deal with it, some people just aren't very communicative in the morning. Just don't let it bother you.

Wow, did she actually say "I'm not in a talking mood"? Geez, talk about a witch! I wouldn't talk to her anymore either! I've been in moods at work where I just REALLY don't want to talk to people and want to be left alone, but if they try to start a conversation, I don't just blow them off and tell them that I don't want to talk to them. I just say as little as possible!

In the morning I talk to no one. Not even on the train coming in. I'm not mentally 'awake' yet, plus I'm really not a morning person. At work I just say "hi", sit down and get to work. I only speak when the boss wants something. Around mid-morning (after my first full Pepsi and I'm getting settled in with my work) is when I start getting lively.

^ Same here. I'm not a morning person and I try to avoid talking until I have that second cup of coffee. There's still no excuse for rudeness though, especially when you have to deal with that person daily.
