Is New Unsolved Mysteries Returning? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I'm sorry if this topic has already been addressed, but I was wondering if Spike is going to continue to air episodes of Unsolved anytime soon, or in the Fall.

Will they be new episodes? Will they be new segments, not just the same old ones with voice overs? If anyone has any idea, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been looking all over the internet and I can't seem to find any new information.

I know they signed a long contract, for 500 episodes or something of that nature, so I feel like it HAS to return at some point.

Well there is alot of info about the contract with spike on the net and this forum if you use the search function.

Briefly, Spike purchased 175 episodes and they were doing about 5 segments per episode, so it was like 900 segments that were refurbished. Since they were airing multiple episodes per day, after two months, you pretty much saw all the new refurbished materials. Per C&G, they did about 1200 segments and that dosent include the updates. So there was still about 60 episodes of material that was left over, using the spike method of heavy editing and condensing

. Ironically, in a FEW stories they added back the NBC material that was edited by Lifetime. I am not a purist if they edit innocuous commentary by family members that simply repeat what someone else said. Things as evidence or clues that were relevant to the case are more significant if they were edited.

I am probably one of the few in the forum that was more receptive to the new program, as some stuff aired hasen't been seen since the NBC glory years. For example, some of the final appeals that were never aired by lifetime.

No sign of the show in the near future per my dish network guide. I put the word Unsolved on search and only get Unsolved History. It is probable that it will be aired again, but probably not in a consistent basis.

lets face it: Unsolved Mysteries is DEAD on TV and will likely never again be given good treatment. They can't even release DVDs the right way!
so in my opinion UM has no future...

I totally agree about the DVD's BUT I hope UM isn't dead for good!

There are SO many cases/people that could be helped by UM. All UM needs is a good channel with some ££££ and it could be great again.

I don't know but it's looking pretty grim for Unsolved Mysteries on Spike. I wish they would release more DVDs of the original episodes or some other network would pick it up.

Oh I am sure Spike will start airing them right after Labor Day, as soon as school starts. You know, when I have to go back to work!

I agree Old School TV, I liked the new format; by NO means does it compare to my Robert and the old format, but it was UM nonetheless. I wonder how it did in terms of viewership? Were the ones on this forum the only people to watch it?!

We really just need SOME channel to pick up the reruns - then at least you can DVR them even if they run late. I need my fix of old school unsolved PLEASE.

I agree.....it's hard to watch new, but I feel it should be on in any format....it was a big help back in it's heyday and I feel it's needed even more so now.

I would rather see a new network pick it up and just show the reruns even. Spike TV was just too inconsistent with its airings, and they cut out a lot of important stuff IMO.

I was ok with the Spike format but I wish a channel like Sleuth or Discovery ID would pick up the reruns. I think WE would be a great channel to air the reruns.
