Does anyone remember at the end of the second or third season that Abby announced she was pregnant? But the next season, there was no mention of it.

I don't remember this. I do remember that when Susan became pregnant, she asked Abby if she wanted kids. Abby said something along the lines of, "I'm not sure...right now, I just want to help you have yours."
Abby never seemed like the motherly type to me. There's a great episode where Nicholas is getting into all sorts of trouble because no one is keeping an eye on him after school. Tom chews Abby out about this ("Nicholas needs a mother! And you're the only one he's got!"), but Abby isn't too receptive about cutting back on her career goals to devote herself to Nicholas. |

You are right. The beginning of the Second season had an episode titled "Here We Go Again" in which Abby visits her gynacologist when she fears that she maybe pregnant. It all proves to be a false alarm however. Also if you remember the double episode where Tom and Abby get married there is a scene where Tom comes home drunk from his bachelor party and he tells Abby that he's going to have a vasectomy. But she tells him no, she doesn't want it. There were further storyline possibilities for Abby's character, but the producers wisley stuck with the Susan-Merle relationship and the birth of their baby.

No she was never pregnant. I did thought they would go there to give the show another angle to go given that Tom Bradford's wife was much younger than him and still at the childbearing age. I did enjoy the relationship of Tom and Abby. Good chemistry.

Wasn't there an episode where somebody found a home pregnancy kit in the garbage, and nobody knew who it belonged to ? Abby was the chief suspect, and one of the girls was "feeling her out" . She brought up the subject of pregnancy, and said "I remember how hairy things got the last time you thought you were ...", and Abby said "Well, I definitely aren't !" . I thought Tom and Abby were at the point where they weren't ready to have another child ( or "There were other things they wanted to do first" ), but the writers might like to do an "Abby might be pregnant" storyline every so often .

I remember the episode and how bad Abby felt. She was worried Tom would not be receptive to wanting a baby. He was going on about something, I think it was the cost of living or something to that effect. He then said if he had to do it again, he would have thought twice about having eight children. Abby was really worried. I remember Abby crying real bad at the doctor's office too. It was so real, it brought a tear to my eyes. Towards the end of the episode, Tom was finally told about Abby possibly being pregnant and he was happy. When Abby was told she was not pregnant, the doctor asked her how she felt since Abby was so upset before. Abby told her that everything was fine because she at least knew her husband (Tom) loved her so much that he would love to have a baby with her and it made things easier for her to deal with.
That's how I remember the episode. |

This was one of my all-time favorite episodes. Betty Buckley was fantastic in it. Nobody could cry better than her. I loved at the end where Tom asks Abby to dance with him with no music going on. So romantic.
