Default Good News? Tony Romo Breaks Up with Jessica Simpson on the Eve of Her Birthday

Tony Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson on Thursday, the night before her 29th birthday, a source close to the pop star tells PEOPLE.

"She is heartbroken," says the source. "She loves Tony. But it's been difficult lately. He's busy with his career and she's getting ready to shoot her show (The Price of Beauty). They decided to part ways."

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback fueled breakup rumors when he showed up with about 14 friends at the Hollywood hotspot MyHouse on Friday night without the birthday girl, a source tells PEOPLE.

"He had quite a few girls stop by his dance floor table," says an onlooker. "Romo was sipping Grey Goose and having a fun time with the boys."

Oh No

Real classy Tony - guess he didn't feel like shelling out for a birthday gift so let's just dump her now.

Is that really any worse than treating her to a great birthday and THEN dumping her?

Besides, publicity is publicity. And that's all this "romance" ever was. Simpson and her boyfriend break up, and the response from her camp is to go right to "People" magazine?

I'm sure they'll both go on with their lives.

Did this have anything to do with her weight "problem" that Obama mentioned in that interview? Maybe Tony doesn't want to be associated with someone that the POTUS bad-mouths on the air.

I never had a feeling they'd last anyway.

Same here. If she's still anything like she was when she was married to Nick, she'll have a rough time keeping anyone. I used to say that Nick had the patience of Jobe and was so good to her. She was raised a princess so any guy will have to put up with a pretty high maintenance chick and the last type of guy I can see doing that is a pro football player.

Ironically, Nick and his girlfriend broke up not too long ago. If it hadn't been for their stupid show, Nick and Jessica might still be together today.

I know. And yah, I wouldn't be surprised. It takes a really strong couple to do a reality show and make it through it from the looks of it. I'm (happily) amazed that so far, it looks as though Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed are still really tight. It's the only reality show like that, that I really enjoy. Sure, tons of it is still half scripted and staged, but I'm sure the family would shut it down if they weren't still enjoying it.

I didn't think Jessica and Tony would last. So I'm not surprised.

I don't follow celebrity lives at all, but I actually thought that they stopped seeing each other sometime during last football season... but maybe she just stopped going to Cowboy games...

If he doesn't win a playoff game this year, we'll trade him there. We'll take Drew Brees in his place.

Tony Romo dumps Jessica Simpson the night before her birthday
BY Cristina Everett
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Monday, July 13th 2009, 4:30 PM

Talk about bad timing!

Tony Romo called it quits with Jessica Simpson the night before her 29th birthday, People.com reports.

"She is heartbroken," says the source. "She loves Tony. But it's been difficult lately. He's busy with his career and she's getting ready to shoot her show (The Price of Beauty). They decided to part ways."

Speculation about the couple’s recent split arose when the Dallas Cowboys quarterback and 14 of his friends partied at Hollywood hotspot MyHouse on Friday night – Simpson's 29th birthday – without the birthday girl.

This isn’t the first break-up for the couple, who began dating in 2007.

Romo reportedly dumped Simpson last May, but was able to patch things up in time to attend sister Ashlee Simpson’s wedding a few days later.

The couple’s split may be good news to Cowboys fans as Simpson, who wore a pink No. 9 jersey to games, was thought to be bad luck to Romo’s football performance. The singer was even nicknamed “Yoko Romo.”

Simpson is said to have planned a Barbie and Ken-themed birthday party for July 10, however no such event happened.

"Barbie party didn't happen, but I turned 29 and feel like I am on top of the world yelling I LOVE GETTING OLDER!" she wrote on Twitter.

Although a suddenly single Simpson may be heartbroken, the singer is staying positive.

"Everyone needs to know that hope floats ... grab the strings and pull it back to you," she tweeted.

Simpson’s rep had no comment. Romo's rep could not be reached for comment.
