Eek Phillies are Frontrunners to get Roy Halladay!

By JOEL SHERMAN

I have talked to a half-dozen baseball executives this morning and the general consensus is that the Phillies should be viewed as the front-runner if Roy Halladay does get traded. Boy the news keeps getting worse and worse for the Mets New York Mets .

More than one of the executives used this term: "No team in baseball is more motivated to get a starter than the Phillies." If I were to synthesize what was said about the Phillies and Halladay it is this: 1) They are a now team and Halladay gives them a major boost in trying to repeat. 2) He is a groundball pitcher, which only makes him more attractive to a club that plays home games in cozy Citizens Bank Park. 3) He is dominant in the AL East, so the Phillies have to think his stuff would play up to a greater degree in the NL. 4) Philadelphia has volume in good to very good prospects, but might not have the one sure thing to front a deal for a player as special as Halladay unless the Blue Jays see Kyle Drabek, Jason Knapp, Dominic Brown or Michael Taylor in that way.

I hope we get him!!!!!!!! If we do, do I smell a repeat???

Buster Olney, MLB insider for ESPN The Magazine said it's 50-50, on whether or not Halladay will get traded before the trade deadline this year. He has 2 years left on his current contract and is set to make 15 million next year.

Cool

If he continues to pitch like he has in his last couple of starts (both losses) you guys can have him. That being said I'm sure the Jays will be asking for a lot in return in any trade scenario involving "Doc".

Thanks. I hope we can get him. Why, he hasn't been too bad his last few starts? He's 10-2 with a 2.79 ERA this season, in a division with the Red Sox, Rays & Yankees mind you. With that said, I know Toronto would want A LOT of players back, and they won't deal him to any of the teams in the same division/AL East I listed, so good for us. But it's going to be tough to get him. He's one of the best 3 or 4 pitchers in the Majors, so it will take a whole lot of convincing and giving up to Toronto management, in order to get him. And do you mortgage our future? If we want him desperately, we might have to. Ex. Kyle Drabek etc.
